Dear Ones:
     I'll admit it: my inborn sense of 'justice' has been fairly 'outraged' by the lack of 'even-handedness' in the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case.
     I refer not only to the skewed coverage by the press, but, also to the 'out-there' opining by 'inflamers' of every ilk...to the point of absolutely trashing any concept of 'innocent until proven guilty' for George Zimmerman.
     This is wrong and needs to be addressed, which I do here, by way of the link in yellow below.
     Unlike what you've been reading recently, here actual FACTS are addressed which have either been completely ignored or deliberately perverted by those who seek to profit from this tragic case.

     Please take care to give all sides their due and keep an open mind (and heart!) as this case goes to trial.
     Do NOT be among those who preach division and hatred...especially when such discord is based on nothing more than the color of one's skin.

     People are literally saying this photo and/or George Zimmerman's injuries are 'faked'.  So sad.  Hang the cost--if you are EVER forced to defend yourself, Heaven forbid, GO to the hospital and get every single complaint checked out and documented by medical and legal authorities.
     Take plenty of photos of your own, too.  If you are ever accosted, dial 911, report your problem and keep the line open.  Record everything you can with your camera or, better yet, with video or, at least, audio.
     Yell your head off (yelling 'FIRE' can work well).
     Carry pepper spray if it is legal in your state.  Learn how to use it, be WILLING to use it, or else don't carry it at all.  Pepper spray is legal in Connecticut.

     There is nothing 'noble' nowadays in 'sucking up' or 'shaking out' non-lethal injuries, as those of us with 'active lives' (and who may have been brought up in 'rough and tumble' neighborhoods) might be in the habit of doing.
     Times are a-changing.
     For now so very much depends on the medical evidence of record for Zimmerman as we learn a valuable lesson from a tragic set of events.
     Let us pray this whole sorry mess comes to a rapid conclusion with all parties returning to what is left of their lives 'as normal'...and learn from this tragedy. 
     R.I.P.  Trayvon Martin.

"An Open Letter To Sybrina Fulton From A White Female Pastor" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Dear Sybrina:
     You are a grieving mother and nothing will ever change that.
     For this, you have my heart and I grieve with you. 
     I am a fellow Christian and I know we are acutely aware of the fact that we are continually faced with trials in our lives from the minute we are born.
     We are Christians and that's just the way it is.
     We gladly embrace the Will of our Lord because we love Him.  We seek to serve God unconditionally-no matter how beaten down and destroyed we are-because our brother Jesus willingly subjected himself to what we, sometimes, also have no 'choice' but be exposed to, albeit on a lesser level.
     Yes, God decided to sacrifice His own Son so that we pathetic humans may be saved!  Yet, we women often relate to someone else.

     As women, we identify very often with the loss Mary felt when our dear Jesus was crucified.
     As women, we  feel for our sisters who loved and fed and ministered to our blessed Jesus.  We meditate upon and wish to emulate those brave women at the 'foot of the cross'.
     My message to you, dear Sybrina, is surprisingly simple and it is this:  Your true brothers and sisters understand what you are going through.  The loss of a child is as repellent and as simplistic as anything can be.
     What I also say to you Sabrina is this:  ALL of our children have lives we don't know about.
     Mother Mary (though, yes, she had a 'angelic hint', as did Joseph) had no particular blueprint to work upon, nor was she truly prepared that her child would be a 'shaper of the world'.
     But this is our blessed Lord Jesus Christ we are talking about, and Heaven knows our own kids fall short on all things regarding our Lord.
     Our kids fall short, because we all fall short.  So it is for all humans.
     The truth is that our children, as they mature, develop very real personalities and traits in their own right.
     And sometimes they behave in ways we might not like, but that is how it is.
     Some of our child's deportment meets our approval...and some does not, which brings us to this:
     I believe that at this time, you, Sybrina are experiencing the truth of knowing that your son Trayvon had a secret life.
     You are not by any means unique in this, for you have joined an entire cadre of mothers and grandmothers (such as myself) who have been forced to face the truth that a 'young person' in their  life is not exactly the person they thought they were!
     It happens.  And it is a reality of everyday life.  The problem is, Sybrina, that because of recent events, you are not only experiencing the results of what your son did or didn't do, but you are being forced to consider the possibility that you did not know your Trayvon as well as you thought that you did.
     You are in good company with us, those women who have been surprised and even 'blindsided' by realities we wished would never see the light of day.
     What I say to you is that I pray you will not be so blinded by rage that you act out of accordance with the Will of our Lord.  If George Zimmerman was attacked by your son, allow reasonable justice.
     I pray that you open your heart to the truth as presented regarding what transpired in your son's trial and that you honor God's Truth in all things, devoid of prejudice and race and bias and bigotry.
     Despite your 'mother's sensitivities', Sybrina, I pray that you are able to preach honesty and goodness and decency at all times.
     I pray that mother Sybrina be like Mother Mary and and take a sacred path to justice and avoid the 'world of hate' of those who thrive on racial and class division.
     Most of all,  I pray that those who may read this join in these prayers, that God's Will be done in all things.
     We know not what God's Will is at all times, but we live in faith that our Heavenly Father certainly knows what is best for us-A message that is total nonsense for non-believers, as well I know.
     Please, Sybrina, be the penultimate Christian woman with all you have gone through, my sister, different though we are, yet so very alike.

"Beautiful Custom Green Grishko Pointe Shoes" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

     These are Grishko Maya 1's (gently broken-in before dyeing and decorating) with Bloch Elastorib ribbons sewn on.
     Please note that these are 'fully functioning' pointe shoes.  I have taken care in designing and creating them to assure that they will withstand the rigors of dancing (test results forthcoming) and not interfere with a dancer's 'technique' in any way at all.
     By this I mean that no decorative details come in contact with the dancer's foot, the drawstring is fully-functioning and dye-transfer is not an issue.  Note that the inner 'tie-dye' effect was achieved by delicately dabbing some dilute dye here and there in an effort to 'compensate for' some of the 'blue bleed-through' caused by the initial dye process.
     Here are the general instructions if you'd like to replicate this 'look' for yourselves.

1)  First you must prepare the shoes for dyeing-(see my other article "BARB'S DYE PROCESS FOR POINTES (BLACK) & ALL SATIN SHOES--Easy Do-It-Yourself Instructions")

2)  Mix the following to achieve the desired green color.  Be sure to 'test' your colors--wet and dry--on paper towels and on scraps of pink or European pink ('peachy pink') satin to get a true read of your colors.  Note that these dyes always dry a LIGHTER color than when they are wet.
The formula used includes Esquire Brand Shoe Dye in 'Skipper Blue' and 'Metallic Gold' along with Simply Spray Soft Fabric Paint in 'Brite Yellow' (below)

Start with the Esquire Metallic Gold, spray in some Simply Spray Brite Yellow and add a little Esquire 'Skipper Blue' to adjust to the proper green.  Add a little water to 'thin', but do not use a very watery mixture, since you do not want to saturate the pointe shoe.  When your test samples dry to the desired color, apply a thin coat of dye to completely and evenly cover each shoe, and let dry for about an hour.  Then apply a second coat and allow to dry for at least one day before applying decorations.

3)  After the shoes are dry, dye the ribbons, one at a time, one side at a time.  Start at the attachment end and 'pull the dye along the ribbon' using the foam brush in the palm of your hand..finishing out to the end.  Be careful with doing this to not let the wet ribbons brush against the finished shoes.  Also, be sure to lay the wet ribbons on plastic, for the paper towels will only 'wick dye' out of the ribbons.  And as the ribbons dry, some excess dye is bound to 'pool' on the plastic, so let be sure to blot this up periodically until it is no longer necessary, as the ribbons dry.  Better yet, if it is possible, 'hang' the pointe shoes up in some manner so that the ribbons can hang freely to air dry.  (Again watch for spills and drips, though.)

4)  Use white 'sticky glue' (I used Aleene's Original Tacky Glue-All Purpose-available at Michaels Crafts stores and elsewhere) to neatly apply ribbons and decorations as desired.  Be sure not to place or paste anything on the bottom sole of the pointe shoe, as it will interfere with the dancer's ability to 'feel' the floor.  Note in the second photo from the top that the ribbon is snipped and neatly glued down near the edge of the leather outersole.  I don't know how well this will 'hold-up' to the punishment of a full performance, but experience tells me that, in general, 'cloth-to-cloth' adhesion using this sticky glue is generally very tenacious...Almost impossible to 'undo', in fact, so it should be fine during vigorous use! 


5)  Some dye 'bleed-through' will be inevitable with all dyeing methods.  You can choose to ignore it or do some 'minor embellishing' as I did with the 'tie-dye motif' in order to make your pointe shoe project more pleasing to the eye.


6)  You can dye the drawstrings after the shoes, themselves, are dry.  Pull the strings out a bit, dye them and let them dry.  Or, you can do as a I did- just tuck them in without dyeing them and don't worry about them, for they should not show anyway.

7)  Invariably, satin pointe shoes will 'SHRINK' a bit after dyeing.  The less-'watery' the dye you use, the less the shrinkage.  However, you must take this into consideration whether you are dyeing shoes for yourself or for your dancer.
