Q:  When is an apology NOT an apology?

A:   When it is a fatuous, disingenuous, paranoid one from Rabbi Hammerman and it DISAPPEARS!!

     Such is the case with a now-expunged so-called 'apology' Rabbi Joshua Hammerman put forth at one time.  I feel that it bears re-publication here, again, since the Interfaith Council of SW CT has unanimously decided to DEFEND and PLAY APOLOGIST for this errant Rabbi.

     The Interfaith Council of SW CT has deemed it proper to deem the attacks on Rabbi Hammerman as unjustified.

     I don't think so.

     Even worse, The Interfaith Council of SW CT has deemed it proper to posit Hammerman as the 'victim' while choosing to excuse the massive amount of writing the not-so-good Rabbi has published in his zealous anti-Christian bigotry as a true Christianophobe.

     The original 'apology' disappeared because Rabbi Hammerman obliterated his 'blog'.  (Wonder why?)  In fact, the entire 'Hammerman-Tebow' thing flared up mid-December 2011, when 'sleepy Stamford' was in the midst of holiday preparations and celebrations...And while the pall of a terrible Christmas fire tragedy hung heavily on all our hearts.

     Sure enough, while the world noticed, we here only recently learned of Hammerman's anti-Christian campaign.  But, rest assured, thanks to the marvels of the modern internet, here is this faux-apology and more, in toto.

     As you read it with fresh eyes, note the 'cheap shot' Hammerman takes with his 'raping little boys comment'.  I guess verbiage like this is just 'second-nature' for the Progressive Liberal religious sector around here.

      But, while Rev. Katie Hechler and her Interfaith Council of SW CT may deem this perfectly acceptable rhetoric from a member of the clergy, I certainly do not and even Hammerman's so-called 'apology' offends.

     It's important that Rabbi Hammerman understand that not all Christians, evangelical or otherwise, seek to 'convert him', myself included.  This is a matter of 'discernment'.

     And somebody should remind the Rabbi that here in the United States of America, he must respect the right of all to practice the religion of their choice, and that it is the LAW!

     Though clearly Hammerman is not a friend of Christians, surely G-d can change his heart.

     G-d can assure that Hammerman learns to live with those who are different from himself, and to do so without feeling 'threatened'...here in Connecticut or wherever in the world he may be.  But this can only happen if the Rabbi has an 'epiphany'.

     Perhaps a miracle will occur and G-d will impel Hammerman to change his ways.

     I hopeful, but I'm also a realist.

     I know that to allow Rabbi Joshua Hammerman's words, sentiments and actions and those of his apologists to go 'unchecked' in the very city where all this anti-Christian hate talk originated is very, very wrong.

     It is just not right to repeatedly attempt to sweep unclean things under the proverbial rug.

Herewith is Hammerman's 'apology':     

“My Tebow piece is generating the expected outrage from the evangelical right (cant’ wait for Jews to begin chiming in!)”

“I was careful in my comments not to accuse Tebow himself of potentially destructive acts but to suggest that a perceived divine mandate for Tebow could inspire mischief among the zealous evangelical right. Unfortunately, mosque burnings have already occurred in this country (and a notable Quran burning too). All it takes is one crazy person.”

“As for Tebow, he has done extraordinary things. His love for people is unbounded. His entire life’s work is also predicated on saving my soul for Jesus. He’s not alone in this. Tebow has been affiliated with the Southern Baptists, who spend millions to convert Jews, often deceptively.”

“I personally don’t consider that exemplary behavior. Is it better than raping little boys? Absolutely. But is it admirable? I have issues with anyone determined to save my soul, be that person Christian or Jewish. And when they are going after the souls of our kids on college campuses, with a multimillion dollar budget that puts the Jewish community’s education budgets to shame, I do think it is cause for concern.      As for myself, I will continue to reveal and fight against the type of religious intolerance Rabbi Hammerman so thoroughly manifests.  The Rabbi's 'apologists' aside, clearly this is a man who spends a great deal of time pondering, writing, publishing, editing, redacting and sometimes 'deleting' that which is dear to his heart.
     This is a man who 'lives to write' and he will undoubtedly keep on writing, come what may.
     There are no 'mere slips of the pen' or 'clumsy words and actions' for Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, for he writes what he believes...
     As do I.

     Recently, a Stamford, CT Rabbi Joshua Hammerman received worldwide attention for his long-winded Christianophobic rant against, of all people, the Denver Bronco's QB Tim Tebow.
     It seems that Rabbi Hammerman has such an intense hatred for Tebow, and for Tebow's evangelical Christian faith in particular, that the only solution Hammerman can think of is to suggest that Tebow's mom should have killed her son in utero.
     Yes, you read that right.
     Abortion advocate Hammerman goes on at length in his twisted piece, opining on Tebow's mom's pregnancy with Tim and finally giving her some truly hateful 'advice'.  Obviously he has given this a great deal of thought and spent a great amount of time writing what he did. (ABOVE)
     Apparently Tebow's mom's decision really bothers Rabbi Josh Hammerman, who says:
"Tebow's mother, a Baptist missionary, became comatose during her pregnancy, and was saved by drugs that nearly killed the fetus.  Doctors anticipated a stillbirth and recommended termination to protect her life, but Tim's mother refused to abort.  Trumpeting that decision, mother and son appeared in commercials for 'Focus On The Family' during this past season's Super Bowl."      Hammerman then reveals the real reason why he hates Mrs. Tebow's refusal to abort her son Tim:

"Now Tiny Tim has grown and is on track to appear in this season's Super Bowl-on the field-and that is what scares me."  (ABOVE)

     To add insult to injury, Hammerman caps his phobic rhetoric with the almost unspeakable by suggesting that Tim would have been better off 'exterminated' in his mother's womb, so that he (Hammerman) would not have to be subjected to the 'Tim Tebows' of the world:

"His mom's decision to risk her own life rather than abort her fetus flies against my own-and Judaism's-values, but neither am I pro-choice in all cases."

     Is it me, or is this just plain 'creepy' coming from a paranoid Rabbi?  I've stated before how repugnant I think Rabbi Hammerman's pontification towards a pregnant Christian woman is.  I'm amazed it even got 'approved' at all by editors at 'The Jewish Week' (though they might be trying to tell us something).
     But this suggestion that it is 'better that Christians kill their fetuses' before they are even born is downright evil.
     Someone needs to, first of all, remind Hammerman of the right to freedom of religion we all enjoy here in the United States of America.  Maybe that would help him take a 'chill pill' on this subject once and for all.
     Also, someone needs to 'counsel' this warped Rabbi and his 'eugenics solution' for evangelical Christians and give him a 'morality' check, but good.
     Yes, Hammerman has a right to vent in this manner, I suppose.  But, no, he does not have the right to go unchallenged by those such as myself.
     For now, Rabbi Joshua Hammerman is apparently receiving tremendous majority support (except for the few of us) by not only his congregation at Temple Beth El in Stamford, CT...but by the Stamford community, itself.  Perhaps there is even a certain degree of 'ignorance of the facts' about Hammerman's hate-speech, which he originally published in the midst of the holidays while Stamford's attention was focused on other things, including a tragic Christmas fire where lives were lost.
     But it is also possible that most will 'go along with' the unanimous, unconditional support of The Rev. Katie Hechler and The (progressive liberal) Interfaith Council of SW CT.

     Sure there are lots of 'apologetics' here for this renegade Rabbi who are sanctifying all of Rabbi Hammerman's anti-Christian bigotry as nothing more than a 'slip of the pen' and a 'momentary lapse of proper word usage'.
     But as for me...I'm not buying it, nor his 'phony apology', either.

     I've written a number of pieces already on this and will be addressing Rabbi Hammerman's unhealthy and cruel obsession with Tim Tebow's mother and her apparently 'at-risk' pregnancy.
     I have a strong stomach, but Rabbi Josh's 'spiritual commentary' (as if he had a prayer) for Tim Tebow's mom chills me to the bone.
     How dare a man...let alone a Jewish clergyman...'pontificate' to a Christian woman who is carrying and already in love with her unborn child, about whether or not her child is worth 'saving'?
     I have a friend whose mother was told in the eighth month of pregnancy that her child 'had a big, boxy head'.  His mother was inclined to follow 'doctors' orders and have a late-term abortion.
     Fortunately for my friend, his Aunt (his mother's sister) intervened and my friend was born...
     And, yes, with a 'big, boxy head'.  But he is alive and is a wonderful, able and super intelligent person!
     For now, focus on the Rabbi's Christianophobia, which alone is cause for concern.  But as you read about this burgeoning story, please remember what you have read here and that those who intend to do 'evil' are attempting to purge all this from the Internet.
     Who can blame them?  But I, for one, don't want to see that happen.

     No doubt about it.  This is one case where no ministry IN THE WORLD can begin any healing before the repugnant pimple of prejudice is 'popped', cleared, cleaned and prevented from 're-appearing'.
     I know in my heart that Jews in Stamford and CT don't hate Christians as much as Rabbi Hammerman would have us believe.
     But for those who so obviously support exactly this sort of anti-Christian bigotry BY YOUR SILENCE (take note Interfaith Council of SW CT, of whom Rabbi Hammerman is a stalwart member)...
     We are not about to sit by silently, complacently and acquiescently, for any of this.
     Rabbi Hammerman's quick and stealthy 'retraction' and pseudo-apology tells us all we need to be aware of what is and what may come.

Dear Ones:

     Sometimes, health-related situations arise which demand our immediate attention.

     Such is the case here, with a birth control 'pill' FDA Recall 'in-progress'...which is listed in the December 28, 2011 FDA 'Enforcement Report'.

     The FDA, itself, recognizes that there may be unintended consequences for those who use certain drugs during the interim period between the issuance of an 'Enforcement Report' and the actual 'RECALL' of the pharmaceuticals under discussion.

     I am not a fan of oral birth control pills- not so much from a 'moral perspective', but, rather, because there are very real health consequences to long-term users of these drugs.

     What I present here is purely from a scientific perspective as a biochemist.  You know the negative side-effects of your oral birth control methods, ladies.  Unfortunately, in this case, you can add an 'increased likelihood of unintended pregancies' due to packaging errors!

     Rev. Barb's advice: the shorter the duration of 'pill' use, the better.  Also, remember that oral contraceptives do NOTHING to protect you against STD's of all sorts.

     That being as it may,  here's a recent official FDA statement regarding 'RECALLS' currently suspended in a bureaucratic 'limbo':

"The FDA begins a pilot program seeking to expedite notifications of human drug product recalls to the public. The agency will modify the drug product section of the Enforcement Report¹⁷, published every Wednesday, to include actions that have been determined to be recalls, but that remain in the process of being classified as a Class I, II, or III action. Such recalls will be listed under the heading, “Recalls Pending Classification: DRUGS.” They will be reposted with their classification once that determination has been made. Send comments or suggestions to CDERRecallPilot@fda.hhs.gov." (Enforcement Report December 28, 2011

      What this MEANS is that the FDA, (and I agree) feel that the public really ought to be notified ASAP about pending drug RECALLS even before the official weekly report comes out and even before a particular RECALL is officially 'classified' ("I, II or III").
     I have chosen here to highlight 3,220,845 cards of oral contraceptives distributed nationwide and in Puerto Rico, since the stated reason these pills are in the process of being recalled is as follows: "Contraceptive Tablets Out of Sequence; blister cards were rotated 180 degrees, reversing the weekly tablet orientation."  (Enforcement Report Dec. 28, 2011)

     And we all know what that means.
     You can be as responsible as you can and there will still be no way that you can be assured of the stated efficiency and efficacy of your favored birth control method.
     Be sure to check for your birth control brand...and check out the other pending RECALLS of other drugs in the Enforcement Reports.  Brand names of the affected oral contraceptives include Cyclafem, Emoquette, Gildess, Orsynthia, Previfem and Tri-Previfem.

     I applaud the FDA for featuring the information the public needs to see more prominently, as highlighted in their pilot program statement above.
     It's tough for patients to stay up-to-date as it is.  All of us can use all the help we can get when it comes to the health of ourselves and our loved ones.

Dear Readers:
     Recently, it was brought to my attention that this book, "It's Perfectly Normal" has been chosen by the Stamford School System as a 'textbook' for our public school children.
     Now...I'm no 'prude', but I have to be v-e-r-y careful with what I put on my  blog here...because I must maintain a 'family friendly site'. 
     Although I discuss an exorbitant amount of POLITICS, GAY SEX, RELIGION and FUNDING, this is the FIRST TIME EVER that I've had difficulty formatting an article and related images due to the sexual content of--a children's book, of all things.  It is a book by a Planned Parenthood aficionado named  Robie Harris.
     Call me old-fashioned, but we're talking full frontal and 'rearal' nudity that I can't even show you here!     Ironically, it's all over this 'CHILDREN'S BOOK', "IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL"!    If the choice of this book as a literacy text strikes you as 'odd', you're in good company and I urge you to email me at BarbaraKSexton@aol.com, and/or leave a public comment below and be sure to contact the Stamford School System Administrators no matter what you do (email below).
     I think the video I've chosen below will pass muster for 'PG decency' so you can get an idea of this book which has been so very controversial for years now.  You may even be a little shocked.
     But when it comes to REAL shock value....STAMFORD has got other school systems BEAT! 
     You see, this book, "It's Perfectly Normal" has been chosen as a LITERACY TEXTBOOK in Stamford Public Schools for FIFTH GRADERS!
     Yep!  Not for sex ed or science...this prurient little masterpiece (prurient for little 10 year olds and below, that is) is destined for LITERACY coursework for grade-schoolers.  You hear right--'For LITERACY'.
     This 'literacy' textbook choice was made on behalf of all of us taxpayers in Stamford.  Any teachers refusing to use the book are under threat of being fired.  Any parent wishing to 'opt out'...well, they just won't have that option.
     Also, any parent or anyone who may not be in agreement with the PRO-GAY, PRO-ABORTION preaching of our sex tome here, likewise, need not expect that their opinions are being considered.  It is obvious that the opinions of moderate-to-conservative parents and other taxyers are simply being ignored in Stamford, CT.  The choice has been made and the Board of Ed knows best.
      Say what you will about this literacy text book choice made by Mary Jennings, Administrator, Board of Education (e-mail: mjennings@ci.stamford.ct.us ) under the direction of Dr. Joshua P. Starr, Superintendent jstarr@ci.stamford.ct.us , it's sure to be fascinating to the ten years olds (and their younger siblings) who manage to get their hands on it.
     I don't know what is going on in Administrator Jennings and Superintendent Starr's mind using a graphic sex book as a 'literacy tool'.  From what I understand, it is a 'done deal', so parents be on the look-out for some interesting reading material coming home soon -if they let the kids take their copies of 'It's Perfectly Natural' home, that is.
     To me it's just a really, really weird choice and other books just as interesting, could have been chosen to...er...'promote literacy'.  I just don't get why Stamford chose one with so many graphic images.  Seriously.  
     Shock value?-yes.  Good judgement?-no.  Oh, the students will remember this one, alright.
     It's bad enough that education has been 'dumbed down' for our children and now we have this, too.  Whatever 'innocence' the may yet have, should be preserved for as long as possible.  What's with all this 'sexualizing of young children in grade school'? 
     No, it is NOT true that all ten year olds are ready to be propagandized by the progressive-lib's and their 'take' on all things related to carnal knowledge.  Is it asking too much for our EDUCATORS to keep their personal POLITICS out of the lives of our YOUNG CHILDREN? 
    NOT all 10 year olds are engaging in sex regularly.  No matter how progressive-lib Democratic educators try to extrapolate their sociomedically 'skewed data' generated these days, it just doesn't correlate for all of Stamford's public schoolers.  We and our families are not all the same.        
     So, dear educators:  you may have succeeded in  'dumbing down our kids across the board', but you will not 'sleaze it up' for them no matter how hard you try. 
     We know you 'can't resist trying to cultivate them  when they're young--under the guise of 'doing what's in their best interest, of course.
     But it won't work.  As the children mature under the strong tutelage of their loving parents and guardians, they will discern the truth for themselves.
     Older siblings will 'spill the beans' over that 'funky book their kid brother or sister is reading in 'literacy'.
    When they do, dear educators, they won't be complimenting you...they'll be dissing you. 
     They'll be dissing you for giving this age-inappropriate book to children in an inappropriate setting, your selfish reasons being obvious.
     I stay current with CDC and WHO health and education stats as a biochemist, so if feel free to challenge me 'epidemiologically' if you choose to.
