     The Triad Alcohol pad recall situation continues to evolve.

     Now FORTEO (black) patient starter kits are involved since they include alcohol prep pads made by Triad.

     FORTEO is recombinant human parathyroid hormone analog (1-34), [rhPTH(1-34)] indicated for:
---Treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture
---Increase of bone mass in men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis at high risk for fracture
---Treatment of men and women with osteoporosis associated with sustained systemic glucocorticoid therapy at high risk for fracture
     In English, this means that FORTEO is a synthetic parathyroid hormone-like compound which is used to encourage bone growth in the body.

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 17, 2011 - INDIANAPOLIS, March 17, 2011 – Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) announced today that patients should not use the alcohol prep pads made by the Triad Group that are contained in the black starter kits for Forteo® [teriparatide (rDNA origin) injection] in the United States. The Tri-ad (sic) Group is recalling the alcohol prep pads due to potential contamination with the bacteria, Ba-cillus (sic) cereus, which could result in life threatening infections, especially in at-risk populations, including immune suppressed and surgical patients. It is important to note that this recall does not affect or involve the Forteo Delivery Device. The starter kits did not contain the Forteo Delivery Device.

     In 'English', this means that FORTEO is a synthetic parathyroid hormone-like compound which is used to promote bone growth.
     It is administered by injection via a 'multi-dose' device, hence the need for alchol pads.
Increase of bone mass in men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis at high risk for fracture
Treatment of men and women with osteoporosis associated with sustained systemic glucocorticoid therapy at high risk for fracture
Some Forteo starter kits distributed by Eli Lilly and Company between March 2008 and June 2009 may have contained Triad Group alcohol prep pads. The Triad alcohol prep pads should not be used. The Forteo starter kits that contained the Triad alcohol prep pads were black bags and were discontinued in June 2009. The Forteo starter kits have been updated since June 2009. The bags are now blue, do not include Triad alcohol prep pads, nor any other alcohol prep pad.


Lilly has requested that physicians and their staff examine their inventory of Forteo starter kits and remove and appropriately discard the Triad Group alcohol prep pads in the black bags. Lil-ly has also requested that physicians inform any patients who may have received Forteo starter kits containing Triad Group alcohol prep pads to discontinue use of the pads.

Gov. Malloy's "Job Killer" Budget Tour will arrive on Tuesday, March 22nd, 7pm at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.
Bring your questions, your friends, fellow taxpayers to this political dog and pony show. Other citizens have already explained to Gov. Malloy that it is crazy to raises taxes, by 1.5 billion dollars, or any amount, when the state is in the middle of a recession. Construction is way down, real estate is getting hollowed out - the private sector is hurting, and now Malloy wants to hurt it even more by taking more money from it in order to help the state government unions with more taxes and more debt. All this in what is already the most indebted state, per capita, in the whole nation.
Malloy has talked about "shared sacrifice" but he has shown nothing that is comparable from the state government. He needs lots of pressure.

TRELSTAR is a white to slightly yellow lyophilized cake. When reconstituted, TRELSTAR has a milky appearance. It contains a pamoate salt of triptorelin, a synthetic decapeptide agonist analog of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). The chemical name of triptorelin pamoate is 5-oxo-L-prolyl-L-histidyl-L-tryptophyl-L-seryl-L-tyrosyl-D-tryptophyl-L-leucyl-L-arginyl-L-prolylglycine amide (pamoate salt). The empirical formula is C64H82N18O13 · C23H16O6 and the molecular weight is 1699.9. The structural formula is:

Dear Ones:

     Problems arising from TRIAD alcohol pads and swabs potentially contaminated with Bacillus cereus continue on.  Please note that the manufacturers of all the injectables involved in these recalls maintain that the drugs, themselves, are SAFE!
     It is imperative that patients NOT USE the Triad alcohol prep pads included with injectables, in this case for Trelstar aka triptorelin pamoate for injectable suspension. 
     Trelstar is a form of 'hormone therapy' for prostate cancer.  In the common vernacular, it is an agent of 'chemical castration'. 
     Specifically, Trelstar is a Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, which means it 'mimics' natural GnRH  and is capable of 'blocking' GnRH receptors in the brain. 
     (Yes...the 'brain' really IS our major sex organ as I have said many times before, a concept which is finally enjoying the attention it deserves from my 'traditionally-oriented' colleagues.

     Trelstar (or a similar GnRH agonist) 'fools' brain receptors into thinking all of it's GnRH receptors are being 'blocked' by the 'real thing'.
     The pituitary thus becomes 'stimulated' and it's secretion of FSH and LH eventually decreases.  This, in turn, ultimately causes the testes to produce less testosterone, as well as reducing PSA levels.* (please see my note below)
         Many cases of prostate cancer respond positively to efforts to decrease testosterone and this is why Trelstar is as useful as it is as a pharmaceutical option in prostate cancer treatment.
     According to the data Watson shows, Trelstar, in fact, is extremely effective:
"6-month Trelstar 22.5 mg maintains testosterone levels similar to those achieved with surgical castration.     Here are the specifics from the FDA Recalls site:

Mean testosterone level of 12.8 ng/dL in months 2 through 122
97.5% of patients achieved castrate serum testosterone level by day 291
98.3% of patients were below castrate level at month 6 and month 122"

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - February 4, 2011 -Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: WPI), announced today the market recall of alcohol prep pads manufactured by Triad Group which is a component of a convenience kit that is distributed with its products. Triad Group is recalling the alcohol prep pads packaged with products, including Watson’s Trelstar® (triptorelin pamoate for injectable suspension) product, due to potential contamination of the pads with the bacteria, Bacillus cereus, which could result in life threatening infections, especially in at-risk populations, including immune suppressed and surgical patients.

The Company emphasized that there is no potential contamination of the Trelstar product, the MIXJECT® system or components in the Trelstar packaging, other than the Triad alcohol prep pad. The Trelstar drug and the MIXJECT® system have not been affected in any way.

Watson has ceased shipments of Trelstar packaging components that incorporate the Triad alcohol pad while it pursues options to remove or replace the prep pad. Convenience kits will not be available in Trelstar commercial packages until new convenience kits incorporating a replacement alcohol prep pad are available for distribution in March 2011. The Company also noted that it was cooperating fully with the FDA, and notifying its customers.

Watson instructs customers to immediately discontinue the use of the Triad alcohol prep pad included in the Trelstar convenience kit and to appropriately dispose of the entire convenience kit. The Company also recommends customers use an alternative alcohol prep pad product that is not involved with this recall, or to use a sterile gauze pad in conjunction with isopropyl alcohol as an alternative. Both prep pads and gauze should be available at your local pharmacy.

     The last thing a prostate cancer patient needs is any kind of infection at an injection site, especially with all the hot-flashes you have to contend with. 
     So please take care with the alcohol prep pads you may be using at this time!
     If anything 'good' can be gleaned from this Triad situation, it is this: for once, health care professionals are finally advising that isopropyl alcohol and a sterile gauze pad are all it takes to cleanse an injection site.
      Who knows?  Maybe common sense will prevail and health care cost-savings may be realized in some small way with this Triad alcohol prep pad and swab stick recall.
     Alcohol prep pads are not all that expensive in and of themselves.  But when they are fanci-packed in so-called 'Convenience Kits',  packaging costs can sky-rocket, for patients, hospitals and in this case, for the drug-manufacturers themselves.

In the interest of patient safety, Pfizer and Progenics are alerting U.S. patients and physicians to Triad’s recall. Triad® Alcohol Prep Pads are packaged for use with the kit presentation of RELISTOR® (methylnaltrexone bromide) Subcutaneous Injection in the U.S. The RELISTOR vial and other components of the kit are not affected by the defective Triad alcohol pad. RELISTOR sold in single vials also is unaffected by this recall.

Pfizer and Progenics advise patients using the RELISTOR kit not to use the Triad alcohol prep pads included in the RELISTOR packaging for 1 X 7 kits and 1 X 2 starter kits. When preparing to take their RELISTOR injection, patients should use an alcohol prep pad from a company other than Triad, or use a sterile gauze pad with isopropyl alcohol.

Shipments of RELISTOR kits have been suspended until the alcohol pads can be replaced, which will be done as quickly as possible to enable patients to continue to receive RELISTOR. Dear Ones:
     I am addressing this as much to those who do NOT care for Republican (let alone TEA PARTY) politics, as I am to my fellow 'TOM FOLEY' supporters.  The message I want to give you is that we are basically on the same page.
     Yes.  I said that. 
     It may seem that UNION members SHOULD, by definition, 'hang-onto' the old DEMOCRAT straight-line voting, just because IT IS EXPECTED OF THEM! 
     But I am here to tell you that it is time for a CHANGE!  I urge each and every one of you to THINK FOR YOURSELVES, talk with your brothers and sisters and then come to the right conclusion when you pull that lever on Nov. 2.
     It was my honor and pleasure to meet and speak with some AFL-CIO Local 1298 protesters at a recent Tom Foley/Scott Brown Rally at the Riverfront Center in Glastonbury.  For persons like myself, it is as natural as breathing for me to 'migrate' towards 'kindred spirits'.

     I also told all present that I was raised in a poor family with a father who worked as a 'safety engineer' on behalf of Union workers in the NYC Tri-State area. 
     What I didn't have time to share is that one of my Grandfathers worked as a 'nightwatchman' and the other was a 'presser' in the garment district in NYC. 
     Each year, the only winter coat my brothers and I got was one hand tailored for each of us by Grandpa Ike from (DANG-awful itchy, but made with love and FREE!)) heavy wool remnants.  You don't grow up like I did and then struggle on your own for decades to see what you've gained all sucked away by the GREEDY POLITICIANS in power today!
     I could no longer turn my back on the concerns of workers and immigrants than I can on my 'own'.  We (the Foley camp) have more in common than you will ever believe, my Union friends.  As a matter of fact, just check out the full-video (in two parts) of the event you were 'picketing', if you are curious to see what went on. 
     In it, you will see that we are not all that 'far apart' at all!
     We ALL want jobs and are concerned about jobs.
     We ALL worry about health care benefits and what's happening to them under the onus of 'Obamacare'.
     We want the very BEST education for our kids.  It's time to get rid of poorly-performing teachers who are so 'locked-into' the system that they consider themselves to be invincible.
     We want to be able to afford to send our kids to college.
     We want to fight terrorism in all it's forms and to protect our homeland.
     We want to squelch the destructive 'class/race/elitism/socioeconomic/partisan politics' mentality of those currently in power and get back to good old American basics.
     We love our military service members and our veterans.  We love our elderly, our babies, our mentally and physically challenged friends and neighbors and we love our animals.
     NEXT time, don't just stay outside, come INSIDE and listen to things for yourselves, dear Protesters!  I say these things to you as volunteer chair of Tom Foley's 'independents' coalition.
     Yep, I am trying to win your hearts and minds to vote for Tom for Governor of Connecticut, giving it my 'best shot'.
      I wouldn't do this if I had the slightest doubts about my new-found political activities.  In fact, Heaven help the person who tries to influence MY independent vote through force, intimidation or graft!  
     I know some of you consider yourselves 'wed' to Dan Malloy and all-things-Democratic per Union officials-on-high.  I get that.
     But let me tell you that just as the Malloy camp got that repetitive 'Bibb Ad' wrong, now Malloy's 'take' on Tom's 'healthcare option intentions' is even MORE ABSURD. 
     'No more mammograms'?  Give me a BREAK!  I'm a biochemist and an alternative health care provider MYSELF, just so you know...and one who's had two breast surgeries due to mammogram cancer scares.  C'MON!  You think I want to deny ANYONE A MAMMOGRAM or TREATMENT?  You've got to be kidding!
     Plainly put, Dannel Malloy is getting more and more desperate to take apart Team Foley-Boughton in ways that will continue to truly mislead you, his loyal followers.  Sad to say that the progressive-lib Dems currently in power are so 'far removed' from 'barn jacket wearers' that it's not even funny.

      Just please know that while I support Tom Foley, I am a 'tough nut to crack'.  If I didn't think that Foley and his people would DELIVER on what they PROMISED....I wouldn't even be doing what I am. 
     All I ask is that you check and check again on your own guys and see who's 'in it for themselves in the end' and who's really in the gubernatorial race to help ALL of Connecticut's residents, including hardworking Union workers.
     What we need now is not the province of any ONE party or political persuasion.  We need good people who are honest and who have common-sense matched by intelligence, positive support and vision.
     Do you want to be known as 'the guys who are all okay with the corrupt dealings and bankrupting of our fine country thanks to the politics of today'?  Or do you want to be known as the voter group(s) who 'MADE THE DIFFERENCE' to 'take things back' for all the people?  You can see just how horribly divided the country is now.  Whatever happened to our ability to 'agree to disagree' and live happily together ANYWAY in the United States of America?
      I leave you with these thoughts, my new friends:  I'm a 'newbie' to politics'.  Granted, I am an 'idealist' and an 'optimist' and probably very naive about some things.
      But I know Dan Malloy.  He was my neighbor across the street and then behind me--as I told you on October 9, 2010 in front of Glastonbury's Riverfront Community Center.  I 'love' Dan and his family to pieces, but I just can't vote for the guy! 
      Vote for Dannel Malloy and you will be branded securely as nothing more than 'the rank and file' of Connecticut--exactly the kind of heartless Obama-Pelosi-Reed 'classism' that is tearing-apart of our country. 
     Stick with that crew who readily embraces the stigmata of BLUMENTHAL and his bearing of false witness regarding the selfless and sacred sacrifices of those protecting our country honorably overseas and domestic military service.  Stick with him and you and your Unions will be branded, too!
     TRULY GOOD DEEDS need not be TRUMPETED!  They 'speak' for themselves!
     America is so much more than this!  We LOVE our country, our rights and our pre-eminence in the world and.  But under the current administration, we are ALL under assault!  We need the help of America's Unions, to work and fight with those of us who are sick of the status quo!
     Please do NOT undervalue what the Republicans (and the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS) are doing to help protect YOUR UNION JOBS from being shipped overseas...and to protect the future of your kids and grandkids. 
     You'd better believe that the regime you are supporting is living high on the hog....even if we're not.  Why do it any longer?
     The current Administration is fomenting 'classism, racism and elitistm'.  I cannot tell you, my Union friends, how much Tom Foley IS NOT ABOUT THAT.  Watch the video of him and Senator Scott Brown and hear them talk about jobs, jobs, jobs....and jobs.  I'll try to publish as many things like this as I can and you can judge for yourselves who you want heading up our home state.  If I heard it once, I've heard it a score of times, already, from Tom, himself: "EVERYTHING'S ON THE TABLE".  This means YOUR INTERESTS are on the table, as well, my friends.
     Let me be the irascible INDEPENDENT, ever-optimistic, that I am.  I pray that Union members will listen, reflect, digest and react according to their individual hearts and consciences and let "the capitalism that helps ALL of us" flow and flourish in a selfless and 'non-elitist' way! 
     Can you not see that the 'Obama-Pelosi-Reed-Malloy' alliance is killing industry in the U.S.?  Can you not see how current jobLESS numbers continue to SKYROCKET.

STAMFORD -- For the second time in less than a year,


President Barack Obama will visit Stamford Thursday afternoon in an effort to keep a Connecticut Democrat in the Senate.

The president will appear on behalf of U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal, whose lead over Republican candidate Linda McMahon has dwindled to only six points in a recent poll. The $1,000-per-ticket fundraiser dinner (the party of the poor?) will be held at the Marriott Hotel on Tresser Boulevard.


Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dannel Malloy, Stamford's mayor during Obama's last visit to the city in October 2009, said he plans to attend.


"I've met the president on many occasions," Malloy said. "I look forward to having him in the state of Connecticut. Obviously, he's supportive of Dick Blumenthal's campaign and I want to be supportive as well."


Obama's last trip to Stamford was to speak at a fundraiser for Sen. Chris Dodd at the First Stamford Hotel. Dodd has since decided not to run for re-election after being sharply criticized for his handling of the AIG bailout and undergoing a yearlong investigation, in which he was ultimately cleared, for his dealings with subprime lender Countrywide Financial. Obama will now campaign for Blumenthal, the state's attorney general, to replace Dodd.


U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., said he has to vote on Capitol Hill Thursday and will be unable to attend the fundraiser. He said he is happy the president will be visiting the 4th Congressional District, however.


"I am always pleased when a president of either party comes to Fairfield County to look around at the challenges we face and the things we need to do about traffic and housing," Himes said. "I am happy the president is coming by."


Republican Mayor Michael Pavia may not be campaigning for Democrats, but he is still looking forward to getting some face time in with the president.


"It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing," he said.


On Wednesday, Pavia said he plans to meet with the president prior to the 5 p.m. fundraiser.


Preparations are under way for Obama's visit to the Marriott, said hotel General Manager Joe Kelly. About 500 people are expected to attend the sit-down dinner, which will feature a chicken dish.


"Everybody is very excited," Kelly said. "To my knowledge, it's the third president that's visited the Marriott."


Former President Bill Clinton stopped by in 1995 and Ronald Reagan also visited the hotel in the 1980s, Kelly said.


Ellen Camhi, chairwoman of the Democratic City Committee, said she is very excited for Thursday's fundraiser. Camhi received a complimentary ticket from the Blumenthal campaign for the event.


"I'm very thrilled," said Camhi, who attended last year's fundraiser for Dodd. "I know there will be a lot of people there, but I just love to be in the same room as Barack Obama."


Camhi won't be the only repeat attendee Thursday. The Connecticut Tea Party Patriots, who protested outside the October 2009 fundraiser with signs reading "Dump Dodd," plan to again voice their disapproval of Obama and the Democratic Party Thursday afternoon.

"We just want to let the contributors to Blumenthal's campaign and the president and the people in general know that we are still here, that we are not going away," said tea party activist Tanya Bachand. "We don't care for the big-government spending that has been going on. We will continue to try to weaken Blumenthal as a candidate by letting the public know that yes, in fact, there are people who object to this big government agenda."


The Stamford Police Department has assigned a section of the Tresser Boulevard sidewalk across from the Marriott for the Tea Party's demonstration, said Monique Thomas, coordinator for the Greenwich-Stamford Connecticut Tea Party Patriots. Thomas, who said she will be waving her "Linda McMahon for U.S. Senate" poster at the rally, appeared in a video invitation posted on YouTube for the tea party demonstration, which has been dubbed "No Blumen Way."


Camhi said the protesters' plans are "no big deal." She said she does not believe that the president's recent decline in opinion polls will negatively affect the campaigns of any Democrats running for election in Connecticut.


"I think the public is smart enough to know these are very difficult times and he is working very hard," Camhi said. "I don't think anyone expects these problems to resolve overnight."

Blumenthal was on the campaign trail Wednesday and unable to comment. His campaign manager, Mindy Myers, provided a statement via e-mail.

"Dick looks forward to welcoming the president of the United States to Connecticut," Myers said. "It's a
honor to have the president's support, and his visit will help make a difference for our campaign by energizing our supporters and helping raise the resources we will need against our opponent, who is spending an unprecedented $50 million on her campaign."

Parish Braden, a Republican National Committee spokesman, said Connecticut families need a candidate who will stand up to the president's failed economic policies.


"Richard Blumenthal can look to Washington to save his sputtering campaign, but the president's visit will only remind voters that Blumenthal is in lock step with the Democrats' tax and spend agenda that has yet to bring economic recovery to Connecticut," he said. "It's clear that sending Blumenthal to Washington will only make matters worse for the 91 percent of Connecticut voters worried about the direction of the economy."


The president will attend a second dinner fundraiser, which costs $30,000 a ticket, at a private estate in Greenwich following the Stamford event.

I am running for State Treasurer because I want my three young children to want – and be able – to live in Connecticut when they grow up.

We have serious economic challenges and I want to help a Republican Governor stop the spending and borrowing that has led to record deficits. As State Treasurer, I can bring my professional and government experience to help erase the red ink and help get Connecticut’s fiscal house in order.

The state pension fund is underfunded at 65 percent where normal funding levels are close to 80 percent. In addition, the investment returns on the fund are not keeping up with demand or with the general average of other state funds. Recently, the national rating agencies downgraded Connecticut’s bond rating, potentially making borrowing more expensive in the future.

Recent reports suggest the state unfunded pension liabilities and unfunded health care pension liabilities could top $40 billion.

We cannot keep using the Treasury as a credit card without limits. We need to close the state’s purse tight, stop the endless borrowing and start to rebuild our assets so our unfunded obligations do not further erode our state’s ability to be competitive.

      Not long ago, I alerted you to the plethora of Salmonella-laden MICE and CHICKS intended as food for reptiles.  I alerted you to the important implications that (and all similar Salmonella outbreaks in any animal species) has for HUMAN food and food products...and for all of us.

     Recent news indicates that there is a major recall of chicken EGGS due to gross Salmonella contamination. Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa conducted a nationwide voluntary recall of shell eggs.  LINK: http://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/enteritidis/       Some 228 million eggs have been recalled due to this recent Salmonella recall and an ongoing investigation is being coordinated by the FDA, CDC, State and Local Depts. of Agriculture and others via an entity known as PulseNet.
      Be assured that although California, Colorado and Minnesota are mentioned, other states must be on alert as well.  Chicken 'farmers' get their 'stock eggs and birds' from MAJOR suppliers and no doubt these distributors are being investigated by the various agencies, too.  The eggs were distributed around the country and packaged under the names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemp.

     But don't be fooled by the numbers, for not all cases have been reported.
     Believe it or not, just as 'humans' can be identified by their DNA, so can eggs and egg-products be identified.  Epidemiologists use this technique to determine the source of and spread of various food-borne infectious agents...a kind of 'CSI' for pathogens.

"Salmonella Enteritidis Outbreak in Shell Eggs
FDA is collaborating with Federal and state partners to investigate a nationwide increase of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) infections. Partners include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and state public health and agriculture officials. Joint FDA/CDC field investigation teams are working to identify potential sources of SE infection in shell eggs."

      The usual number of EGGS causing Salmonella illness is up a full FOUR-FOLD for a few months now in certain regions.  This means that we need to be careful with what we eat!
Since May 2010, CDC has identified a nationwide, four-fold increase in the number of SE isolates through PulseNet, the national sub typing network made up of state and local public health laboratories and federal food regulatory laboratories. CDC received reports of approximately 200 SE cases every week during late June and early July. Normally, CDC has received an average of some 50 reports of SE illness each week for the past five years. Many states have also reported increases of this pattern since May 2010.

1. ADVOCATE FOR HUMANE POULTRY  FARMING and persuade producers to treat their birds well, which by definition means caring for their health and well-being, thus producing a better product for YOU!
2. ONLY BUY EGGS FROM PRODUCERS WHO ENGAGE IN  SUCH HUMANE POULTRY FARMING.
3. EXPECT TO PAY A BIT EXTRA FOR THE ABOVE...Well worth it if you value the health of yourself and your families, as well as the health and well-being of God's creatures.
4. INSPECT YOUR EGGS.  Any that are cracked, chipped, broken, off-color or look or smell odd should be placed in a small plastic bag and discarded in the trash.  Do NOT feed suspect eggs to 'pets' or wildlife.  Do NOT COMPOST suspect eggs.  Salmonella thrives in such an environment.  If you know for certain that you have infected eggs, follow the instructions here: http://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/enteritidis/
