U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer
Brian Bill
Dear Ones:It hits you like a fist in the gut.
You knew it would be there--but the mind wanders as you take in the Peruvian arts collection before you in the light-filled chamber.
You are enjoying the bright colors and beautiful textures and media before you, and suddenly, there it is -- the 'life size' torso and head shot of Stamford son U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Brian Bill, perched on a easel in the lobby of the Stamford Government Center.
"Brian Bill, a Stamford, Conn. native and 1997 graduate of Trinity Catholic High School, was killed over the weekend in a helicopter crash near Kabul, Afghanistan. Bill, a Navy SEAL, played hockey and soccer at Trinity Catholic and was an Eagle scout."

You are 'face-to-face' with a true hero whose life was sacrificed so that regular people like ourselves can have the simple and exquisite privilege of merely leading our everyday lives.
You bow your head in spontaneous humility, pausing to reflect and to pray and to give thanks.
For this moment in time, the rest of the world ceases to exist. You are immersed in transcendent things, the 'busyness' of our lives standing 'suspended' in time.
A family's loss is shared by the community and we are moved to appreciation.
And, so, it is appropriate that August 6 will ever be commemorated as 'BRIAN BILL DAY' in Stamford.
"The memorial was organized as the one-year anniversary approaches on August 6, 2012, of a helicopter crash in Afghanistan that took Bill's life. Pavia took the opportunity of having everyone gathered to announce that August 6th will be Brian Bill Day, and asked flags be lowered to half staff and a moment of silence observed at 10 a.m."

We set some time aside and remember to remember to be grateful as we honor this Stamford hero...
And all others, past and present, who like CPO Brian Bill lived and died to serve our fine country!
May God Bless Brian, his family, friends and co-warriors...
And May God Bless America
