Dear Ones:
A large preliminary magnitude 6.8 earthquake has occurred in the PERU-BRAZIL BORDER REGION.
This is noteworthy given that the longitude of this earthquake is roughly 'in line with' the Virginia earthquakes...not that they are necessarily related.
The fact is, seismologists do not know if this is significant.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 'accurately PREDICTING' earthquakes, so I present this to you merely as an item of interest.
The data:
DATE | LAT | LON | MAG | DEPTH km | REGION |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
24-AUG-2011 17:46:11 | -7.64 | -74.51 | 6.8 | 145.1 | PERU-BRAZIL BORDER REGION |
Another valuable source of earthquake information is the USGS site.
