There are many individuals and institutions offering “spiritual healing”. Learn how to avoid the scams by learning about the healing power within yourself. Others can guide you, but your free will to make decisions by answering the universal question, “Should I or shouldn’t I?” places the power of healing and wellness in your hands, depending on G-d to help you. It’s simply a matter of becoming a proper vessel. To distinguish between the true healers and the hacks one need only to ascertain whether the person purporting to help is asking the patient to abandon all other treatment options. The other telltale sign is being told, “If your faith isn’t strong enough this won’t work.” The scam artist will always blame the victim for “Not having enough faith.” Therefore, true spiritual healing is a proper balance between prayer and appropriate action and it is mostly a private interaction between the afflicted person and G-d. We all would do well to remember that “If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck” it’s most probably a quack. More at http://moshesharon.wordpress.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and contributing here, Moishe! You are SO RIGHT when you say that there are many 'quacks' out there.
ReplyDeleteI would also add to your 'list of questionable faith healers', that one should be wary of faith healers who demand payment of some sort...and those who insist that 'Satan' or 'the Devil' is at the root of all of a person's problems.
(In 23 years of dealing with the mentally ill, substance abusers and 'dual diagnosis' patients, I've encountered what I believe to be 'demonic possession' but ONCE!)
I combine the best of both traditional and alternative medicine melded with prayer+ and I often work with persons for whom 'traditional methods' have failed.
It doesn't matter what 'religion' they subscribe to, if any, or whether they 'have faith' or not...as long as THOSE WHO PRAY for them have strong faith. There are any number of 'medical studies' to corroborate this phenomenon. (thought for an article)
In case you're interested, 'faith healing' has it's valid place in the context of this Military.Com/NCOA Job Expo article, just as it does in all I write, and here's why:
So many vets are coming back with unrelenting mental and physical problems that many either don't understand or WISH to understand...and it is breaking my heart.
Depression, especially with physical injuries, has the potential to destroy so many when it is left untreated and unattended.
Surely 'joblessness' understandably leads to a sense of 'hopelessness'-sometimes when it needn't -unless and until someone takes the time to intervene.
But there are so many 'good souls' in cyberspace to do just that when they have the proper resources, so pass the word along!
I say address these things in a practical manner, seeking the physical AND spiritual healing of those in need.
May G-d Bless You, Moishe
With Love in Christ-Rev Barb
