Not much is known about the members of SEAL Team 6, but we can be sure that they come from all walks of life; united by their common bond of brotherhood and love of country. They represent a cross section of America; all colors, religions and political persuasions. They are united, focused and patriotic. They are the best of what we as a nation can be. SEALs approach every day willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so we may continue to live The American Way of Life.
In the aftermath of September 11, 2001 President George W. Bush told us that we were a country "awakened to danger and called to defend freedom. Our grief has turned to anger and anger to resolution. Whether we bring our enemies to justice or justice to our enemies, justice will be done." Now, almost 10 years later, President Barack Obama sent American heroes onto foreign soil with the sole mission of getting Osama Bin Laden dead or alive. On May 1, 2011 the United States lived up to its word and the whole world heard the sound of freedom ringing in the echo of the gunfire.
While politics may divide, the security of our nation unites. It is symbolic of our system of government that two very different administrations were able to start and finish this important mission. Reflecting on bin Laden's death President Bush reminded us, "No matter how long it takes, justice will be done." The first tip on bin Laden's whereabouts came from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed 5 years ago while being held at Guantanamo Bay. President Obama seeing the value of information obtained from GITMO detainees as imperative to securing our nation's safety then made his choice to keep the facility open.
People often ask why we organized SoldierSocks.com and there is no better reason to give than to merely refer to the heroes of SEAL Team 6 who killed bin Laden. We founded this organization to help the men and women who have been fighting, suffering and dying for the opportunity to bring closure to this chapter in our nation's history. We as Americans need to do everything that we can to thank this brave group of heroes who show the world every day who we are, what we can be, and what we can accomplish. There are individuals who have made this cause their life's work. They are the operators in the field, the analysts here at home; the families that support them, and most importantly, the families and friends who have lost loved ones along the way. Let's continue to do all that we can to show them the full extent of our appreciation.
Sometimes it takes historic moments such as these, for us to reflect upon who we are as individuals, and what we stand for as a nation. Our daily posturing drowns out the notion that we should be united as one. Let us put all of our differences aside for this one moment and pay tribute to our brave men and women in uniform. Let us remember the SEAL motto: 'The only easy day was yesterday,' and make it a part of our daily life. Let us show the world that we are 'One Nation, Under God, Indivisible.' Let us show them that we too can be the best America has to offer. Let them see that the state of our union is stronger today than it has ever been.
May God bless the United States Armed Forces, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
