From Reverend Barbara Sexton to those in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan and Surrounding Areas:
Are you the type of person who tends to step up and help during emergencies? Would you be willing to help out in the event of: bioterrorism, chemical terrorism, natural outbreaks, radiation emergencies, hurricanes/natural disasters and/or mass trauma? If so, then perhaps you would consider signing up to serve (voluntarily, of course) in the Stamford Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). Here's the LINK:

On the national level, here's some information about the MRC: http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/About#plan
--The MRC was founded after President Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. It is a partner program with Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security.

--MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources. --MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. Many community members—interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, and others—can fill key support positions" . READ THE REST HERE: http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/About#plan
Think you might be interested? We already had our (first) Orientation Meeting on May 19, 2010 at the Stamford Government Center, but volunteers are STILL NEEDED! You needn't be a medical/health professional, by any means. If you'd like to volunteer in Stamford and environs, please click here: http://www.stamfordmrc.org/volunteernow.aspx
Here is some of what you'll read on the City of Stamford website from Anne Fountain and team:
Welcome to the City of Stamford Medical Reserve Corps website! The Stamford MRC is a newly established unit here in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut, serving the City of Stamford and surrounding communities. We encourage anyone interested in assisting their community in an emergency to sign up and be a part of the response. In an emergency, local public health will need assistance from community volunteers, both medical and non-medical. We plan to provide on-going guidance and training to our MRC volunteers, including an annual meeting. We also will provide an option for you to train with other regional Medical Reserve Corps units in Fairfield County if desired. Please join the team by completing an application on-line.
Click on the "Volunteer Now" link on the left to join the Stamford MRC. I look forward to working with you!

I ask you, if our community or one nearby (or even in a distant state) were hit with some horrendous terrorist or natural disaster, wouldn't you want to do everything you could do to help? Please pray on this.
I realize that in the current political atmosphere, some may find it difficult to make a commitment to a political regime they may not always agree with at all times. But this is America, people. We Americans stick together and help each other out, all other factors be damned, right?
Right!
God Bless You and God Bless America,
Reverend Barbara Sexton
