At all great moments in history, religious and lay leaders have been critical to the success and sometimes to the failure of various political movements. As is always the case with things of great import, one can fail to serve God as one should, by alternately 'doing something' or, more often, by 'doing nothing'. WHERE ARE YOU IN ALL THIS?
I know where I am. I have become 'politically active'. Yes, I've 'learned from the best', at President Obama's church, what it means to be socio-religio-politically active. Now it is time for me to atone for all that I've inadvertently allowed to transpire by DOING NOTHING.
To that end, I present you with the following. I'm planning on being at The Italian Center for the Meeting below. Will I see you there?
Please join me in prayer, those who are so inclined:
Lord God:
May it be so that all reading this are at prayer this very moment. May your Will and not ours be done on earth at all times. May we forever have compassion for all of your children, no matter who or what they are and where they may be. May our speech and actions reflect the best that we can be for You. Let us not be slaves to the anger that thrives on retribution and revenge, though others may be just that. Let us topple over our wrong conceptions of self-aggrandizement and instead simply get the work done to make our great country better and stronger than ever.
Please Bless President Obama and all the lawmakers who govern and rule over us. Make us wise with understanding how daunting the work they do is. Help us to acknowledge that governing in the United States of America can be quite overwhelming at times. Help all to know those who seek only personal gain cannot serve You, nor our fine country, ever.
Help us to be as meek as doves, and brave as lions in our life-quest during these days. We pray to be spared the worst of what the world must suffer, as written in your Bible.
Help us to conquer our fears and act as we would like others to treat us. Make us impervious to all ridicule and have us understand it for what it is. We turn to you, Dear Father, with Your promise of better days for us and for our children and for generations to come.
We pray these things with strong faith and in the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ,
AMEN
