"Happy 'Rare Disease Day' To All" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Dear Ones:
It's not 'fun' and it's not 'popular'.  But here I am to tell you about 'Rare Disease Day 29 February 2012'.
Yes, this is the day where 'the powers that be' turn their attentions to 'orphan' diseases...and to those conditions which can make life miserable, but which affect only the 'few' and thus receive scant attention:
This is a 'global effort', as it should be for the kind of things that affect ALL humans, regardless of where they happen to be on the globe.
Can there be any doubt that ALL peoples of 'good faith' wish nothing but the 'best' and 'the best of care' for those in need?
     Certainly not!
So, if you are suffering from (or are the love one of) a 'rare disease', you are keenly aware of what this 'leap year day' of February 29, 2012 means.
It means that you are not forgotten.  It means that you can rest assured there are those who care.  You can know that there definitely ARE researchers and others who have your interests at heart.
And, most of all, it means you have HOPE for a cure, and if not cure, for a treatment..and if not a treatment, then the hope of a 'prevention'.
In this spirit of communal compassion, I ask that each of you reading this takes the time to realize that, truly, 'there but for the grace of God, go each of ourselves and our loved ones'.
Today is a day to appreciate the gains of modern science, while understanding and being grateful for our Creator who loves us so much.
God made us His magnificent creation!  Let us remember--today and all days--to never take His gift of life to us for granted.
And never let us forget that, as Christians, when we pray in the powerful name of Jesus Christ...
     ALL things are possible!
In Christ's Name,
Rev. Barbara Sexton

"Ash Wednesday-The First Day of Lent" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Dear Ones:
Today is Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of 'Lent'.  Lent is a period of 40 days during which time Christian believers typically 'give up something' as a spiritual reminder or 'act of devotion' to help them 'focus' on God in Christ during this time.
Some Christians 'do something' (i.e. volunteer work, of some kind) in lieu of abstaining from something.  The point is to 'honor that which is much larger than our individual selves'.
We become 'unified' in all the world at this time.   As a 'body of believers', we strongly remember that we are 'one' in the 'Body of Christ'...not just today, but on each day of the year, of course.  But this time is definitely special for us.
Incidentally, the 'Sunday's of Lent do not 'count' as one of those '40 days of Lent', for each 'Sunday' of Lent is considered to be a 'little Easter'.
It seems that even during a time of 'self-denial', the Lord gives us 'constant reminders' of the glory that awaits each of us regarding the 'Resurrection Story'!
Whether or not a Christian continues to deny him or herself on these 'Sundays of Lent' is a matter of individual discernment.  If your heart has a question, pray on it and you will receive your answer at once.
But the Kingdom of Christ, of course, is more than a collection of mere 'rules and regulations' and of 'does and don'ts'.  In fact, rich tradition colors all the days of our liturgical lives.
For example, Christianity is replete with 'numerical significances' and in overlying 'themes', such as the 40 years of the Israelites in the desert:
"35 The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan."  Ex 16:35  (NIV)
the 40 days and nights during which Elijah fled to Horeb bolstered by an 'angelic meal':
"7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night."   1Kings 19:7-9  (NIV)
the 40 days that Jesus was tempted in the wilderness:
"1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”  Matthew 4:1-3  (NIV)
among others examples where the number '40' figures prominently, as it does during Lent.
I am not suggesting that anyone become overly-focused on 'numbers in the Bible'...but, rather, that we can enjoy our shared foundation with generations past, with an eye towards those believers yet to be born on this earth--our children, our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren!
If your faith life does not ordinarily include a Lenten commitment, won't you join us this year?
Won't you join us on this 'faith journey' as we travel onwards towards the blessed triumph known as Easter?
I pray you do!
Love, Rev. Barb

"The Story Of Mardi Gras" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

The Story Of Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras came to New Orleans through its French heritage in 1699. Early explorers celebrated this French Holiday on the banks of the Mississippi River. Throughout the years, Orleanians have added to the celebration by establishing krewes (organizations) which host parades and balls. Carnival quickly became an exciting holiday for both children and adults.

Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" and of course is celebrated on that day of the week. The date can fall between February 3 and March 9 depending on the Lunar calendar, used by the Catholic Church to determine the date of Easter. Mardi Gras is always 47 days before Easter Sunday.

"The History Of Mardi Gras-Carnival" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

The history of Mardi Gras-read it here:
"Just the name Mardi Gras conjures up images of drunken, bead-wearing revelers dancing through the streets of New Orleans. But how, and when, did this huge mid-winter party get started? Here's a look at the history of Mardi Gras throughout the ages and across the nations.

Historians tell us that the ancient Romans probably kicked off the Mardi Gras celebrations. Their mid-February festival known as Lupercalia honored the god Lupercus, alternately known as the god of fertility and the god of agriculture and pastoral shepherds. In either case, his party definitely had Mardi Gras-like qualities, including days of feasting and drinking. And a little enjoying the "pleasures of the flesh", probably, too -- in fact, the term Carnival, often synonymous with Mardi Gras, is derived from the Latin expression meaning "farewell to the flesh." "Mardi Gras 'Colors'-What They Mean" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

The official colors for Mardi Gras are purple, green, and gold. These colors were chosen in 1872 by the King of Carnival, Rex. He chose these colors to stand for the following:

  • Purple represents justice
  • green stands for faith
  • gold stands for power

"Hawk Sighting (With Prey) Photos- Stamford, CT Feb. 8, 2012" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

On the morning of Feb. 8, 2012, I heard a 'thump' at the back door.  Upon investigating the noise, I spotted a hawk approximately 34-36 cm long (beak to tail) approximately 4.5 meters from the door.  It looks like the same hawk I've observed for a couple of months now, inscribing wide, lazy, slightly over-lapping circles, way up high over the houses across the street.
The hawk had under it's claws a what looks like either a starling or a large sparrow (?), still alive and faintly struggling.  I could not determine what, if any, coloration there was on the underside of the prey. The hawk would sporatically 'knead' the now squashed breast of the captive bird beneath with it's strong feet as it observed it's environment.  I guess, for a soaring hawk, being on the ground for any period of time is not safe.

All the while the hawk had it's head on 'a swivel', it perused the area--an almost pointless exercise since the only creatures that dared 'romp' in the backyard at this point were some some doofy young squirrels intent upon raiding the hanging bird feeders while all this drama was taking place.
It certainly is not my intention to provide 'too' easy 'pick-ins' for the hawk here with my 'birding', but I also realize that all must eat and this is nature's way.  Having watched this hawk sweep over large 'search patterns' of land from the water's edge onshore in search of food, I did wish it would eventually come close enough for me to photograph it.
Finally I had my chance with this beautiful Hawk Sighting here in Stamford, CT Feb. 8, 2012 right outside my back screen door (which is why these photos are a little fuzzy).  After standing on it's prey  like this for about 8 minutes, the hawk suddenly soared up in flight due NNW, climbing at an angle of approximately 38 degrees. Please, if anyone can definitively identify this species of hawk (and it's prey) email me at

"The Bonhoeffer Project & The Obama Catholic Vote" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Dietrich Bonhoeffer(1906-45)
Dear Ones:
As a member of 'The Black Robe Regiment', I will be bringing you news about the work we are doing, both individually and collectively.
We are at a time in history where our 'human rights' in the religious community are being systematically 'stripped away' by 'human secularists' all around us, in the private, public and 'government' sectors.
Bashing Jews and Christians is 'great sport', apparently.  Unfortunately, sometimes this fighting is 'in house' with the following result:
In the United States of America, hate-speech against people of faith is not only popular, it is actually encouraged in many circles.
Emboldened by the modern culture in American, those who hate 'all things to do with faith' are able to enact their laws with impunity.  For instance, take a look at yet another heartless and ridiculous attack on a precious religious symbol.
People want to get rid of this Cross, not because they care so much about it...but because with today's Progressive liberal mindset, they CAN!
As hard as it is to believe, especially here in Connecticut, Progressive liberals deliberately promote that which flies, morally and ethically, into the face of anyone 'not like themselves'.
This group of anti-religion 'zealots' is in good company across the nation, unfortunately and they 'strike blindly' in their zeal to 'wound and offend' the faith community.
As another example, just look at the Obamacare mandate stating that Catholic institutions MUST provide and pay for birth control pills, even though it is well-known that such coverage and use flies in the face of the long-held traditions of the Catholic church.
A quick perusal of the comments under the above article confirms that there is as much anti-religious bigotry expressed by the general American public as there is by American law-makers.
Does this matter?  Is it over-the-top for secular-humanist (if that) legislators to jam such inequities down our throats?  Does it matter? Does anyone care?
Well, it does matter.... precisely because there are those who DO care!
These same people 'see a red flag' when the progressive libs, led by no less than President Obama himself, use a most bizarre rationale for their 'birth control pills mandate for Catholics'.
Apparently, President Obama and his supporters 'know' the minds of Catholics, and especially, Catholic women everywhere.
Apparently, the current regime is CONVINCED that they know what Catholics do and want!
If this is not an attack on the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church, I don't know what is.
Once an 'elite group' pretends to 'know what's best for me or for anyone else', it's high time to seriously protect and preserve one's personal this case to use or not to use, birth control.
Amazingly, Obamacare supporters deem to KNOW the minds and practices of Catholic women.  Furthermore, these 'pundit's state that an 'overwhelming number of Catholic women' (like 70-80%) actually USE birth control pills against the mandates of their Catholic clergy.
And Obamacare supporters are certain that these Catholic women will 'oppose' their Priests and do damn well what they please!
What does it mean to have such weird 'pseudo-prescient knowledge' of such a large group of Catholic women?
It means that 'President Obama believes he knows best' on all things regarding 'women's health' as well as on 'all things related to being a Catholic/Christian woman'.
Of course, this 'great understanding of Catholic women's sexual choices' which our President claims to have is--like everything else regarding Catholicism--tinted and tainted, as always, by the 'perceived sexual abuses' that non-Catholics love to exploit to their advantage.
This said, please be assured that  I am NOT giving a free pass to any sexual abuse or alleged sexual abuse at the hands of the 'religious'.  Neither am I giving a 'free pass' to Archbishop Egan re: his redaction of his apology for 'sexual abuse' which allegedly occurred under his regime.
(Stay tuned for an entire article on this, since I have had interactions with then-Bishop Egan.)
But my point here is that if punitive measures are being initiated against the Catholic church in the form of 'birth control mandates', this is downright, pure WRONG in the universal sense!
And, it does appear that just this is happening.
But fortunately, all is not lost.
We have a new election cycle is upon us and Catholics everywhere (last time we checked) will be able to NOT universally vote for Obama this time around.
More importantly, we have the good works of efforts such as 'THE BONHOEFFER PROJECT', which is supported by 'The Black Robe Regiment' of which I am a member.
Whatever your religion, all persons of 'good will' will want to support this important project.  Your prayers do more good than you can possibly imagine!
I know that whatever your specific religion or political party affiliation,  you, like me, want your stance to be firm and sure.
We all pray that when we finally stand before G-d we can say, "I kept my word, Lord.  I stood 'true'."
History bears out that when people of good faith fail to speak for and act on behalf of what is 'right' in terms of their faith lives, those intent upon disaster get a foothold.
Just look at the Christian Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his work against Fascism and the anti-Semitism of Adolf Hitler.
Does Bonhoeffer touch your heart?  Does anything happening in the United States remind you of the situation in 1930's-1940's Europe?
Because it is time for peaceful, civil, firm and productive 'push-back' against those who would totally suppress the Judeo-Christian community and we need you.
Thank you for reading this & G-d Bless You,
Rev. Barbara Sexton
"The Biblical Biochemist-Where Science Meets the Cross"
"Dietrich Bonhoeffer was an influential Lutheran pastor, theologian and martyr in Germany, who spoke out against the anti-Semitic policies of the Nazi regime. In 1939 he was invited to lecture in the United States, where he could have remained in celebrity and safety. But he chose to return to Germany to “share the trials of this time with my people.” He was executed in 1945, just before the end of the war. He said, “Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God’s will.”  Dietrich Bonhoeffer is the model we are challenging America’s pastors to emulate in our time.
The Goal
The overriding mission of The Bonhoeffer Project is to save this nation from moral and economic destruction by the radical secularists, by restoring its Judeo-Christian foundation, as articulated by the pastors of colonial America and summarized in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
The Strategy
There are approximately 320,000 Christian pastors in America, with an average congregation of approximately 75 (Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Vol. 44, No. 3, Sept. 2005, pp. 307-322).
We believe the key to transforming this country is to educate and activate as many of these pastors as possible so that they will lead their congregations to stand up for Biblical truth, following the example of the pastors of our founding fathers, who were known as the Black Robe Regiment for their courageous sermons during The Revolutionary War and throughout the foundation of the young country.  By calling America’s pastors to lead once again on the key moral and biblical issues, we are setting the stage for a restoration of the public virtue which is essential to a republic, and which made our nation great.
Many ministries and other organizations have given up on motivating pastors. A majority of pastors in America today are bi-vocational and even those who are not are often overwhelmed with all the elements of their role as the teacher, shepherd, and administrator their churches, leaving little time for  involving themselves in so-called “political” issues. Many have bought into the cultural myth that they should not be involved, or even that it is illegal to do so.
  •  However, we know that the taking of a human life in abortion is more than political – it is moral and biblical.  Murder violates God’s law.
  • Likewise, we know that subverting the definition of marriage is more than political – it is deeply moral and biblical as well. Undermining marriage is a fundamental threat to our civilization.
  • Further, we know that taking away an individual’s life and liberty, including religious liberty, is more than political – it is moral and biblical. These are unalienable rights from God.
  •   And, we know that the result of a nation habitually spending more than it raises is more than political – it is moral and biblical as well. Intergenerational theft is wrong.
Our past experiences have demonstrated to us that if pastors are well informed by those they trust on the biblical imperatives of life, marriage and family, religious liberty, and economics, the pulpit can blaze once again with truth on these crucial issues.  This will lead to a highly informed congregation, which translates into a considerably more informed electorate. Our problem lies in the lack of  knowledge among the voting public, which stems from the lack of biblical knowledge “in the pew” which comes from an under-informed person in the pulpit.  This situation is dire, but it can be reversed."

"Rabbi Bill Rudolph (Also Of Temple Beth El) 'Pays Homage' To Hammerman's Hammering Of Tim Tebow--Christianophobia Is Contagious!" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Rabbi Bill Rudolph of Temple Beth El, MD--'CLONE' of Rabbi Joshua Hammerman of Stamford's Temple Beth El?
Looks like Rabbi Joshua Hammerman of Temple Beth El, CT, has a BIG FAN of his own in like-minded Rabbi Bill Rudolph ALSO of (a) Temple Beth El (in MD)...who says...,
"But, truth be told, I find myself half-consciously rooting for Tebow to fail. I cheer for the blitzing linebacker as he is about to HAMMER Tebow into the ground, hoping I guess that evangelical Christianity will taste some humble pie in the process."
(OUCH!!!--Don't these guys (er...'men of the cloth') have any inner 'controls'? or do they just 'blurt' the first thing that comes to their minds?)
LINK: Check out the Jan 11 & 18, 2012 entries (ABOVE LINK) for more anti-Tebow, anti-Christian remarks.  You won't believe how these Rabbis talk!
Will this never END?  WE GET IT!  So, why don't you fellas do us ALL a favor and 'talk amongst yourselves' from now on?  I'll send you each other's emails and you can be 'pen-pals', or have you been?--But ENOUGH with the 'hammermanning' of poor Tim Tebow, already.
See ya at the next 'interfaith event', of course.

"CDC & MMWR Report: Eight Year Old California Girl SURVIVES Rabies Infection" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

In a world of 'bad news', here is a remarkable medical story about Precious Reynolds of Willow Creek, CA who is but the third patient EVER to recover from clinical rabies in the United States without having received rabies inoculations immediately after being 'infected'.
     Read Precious's story here:
From a medical standpoint according to the CDC,
"In May 2011, a girl aged 8 years from a rural county in California was brought to a local emergency department (ED) with a 1-week history of progressive sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and weakness. After she developed flaccid paralysis and encephalitis, rabies was diagnosed based on 1) detection of rabies virus–specific antibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), 2) a compatible clinical syndrome in the patient, and 3) absence of a likely alternative diagnosis."
Health care providers launched an all-out effort to determine exactly what the problem was.
Initially, the patient was treated for dehydration due to a 'presumed viral illness', after which point all avenues were opened for exploration as the patient deteriorated neurologically and immunologically with attendant pulmonary and cardiac problems.
Due to developing 'signs and symptoms', a differential diagnosis was made to rule out both EV (enterovirus) and West Nile Virus (WNV) and ultimately testing results suggested that it would be prudent to test for the rabies virus:
'On May 4, 2011, the California Encephalitis Project at the California Department of Public Health Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory (VRDL) was asked to urgently test for enterovirus (EV) and West Nile virus (WNV). Enterovirus testing was requested because of the well-described cross-reactivity of EV and rhinovirus in molecular testing. PCR assays for EV and rhinovirus performed on respiratory samples showed no RNA for EV, but rhinovirus was detected. Serologic testing for WNV was negative. VRDL suggested testing for rabies, given the compatible clinical syndrome, and subsequently detected immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) rabies virus–specific antibodies in serum by indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) testing."
Finally, with a presumptive diagnosis of rabies, the patient was 'treated' with the understanding that there is, essentially, 'no known cure for a clinical case of rabies infection'.  The patient was placed in a 'therapeutic coma' and treated for the various physiological irregularities that manifested themselves in short order, including hypertension and supraventricular tachycardia.
"With a presumptive diagnosis of rabies, the patient was sedated with ketamine and midazolam and started on amantadine and nimodipine to prevent cerebral artery vasospasm, and fludrocortisone and hypertonic saline to maintain her sodium at a level >140 mmol/L. Neither human rabies immunoglobulin nor rabies vaccine was administered."
Thanks to a strong immune system and excellent supportive care, Precious began spontaneous movements as her body started to 'recover' from the viral insult:
"On May 8, the patient moved her head spontaneously. Over the next few days, she moved her head more, then began moving her arms and then her legs. With progressive improvement in her strength, she tolerated extubation on May 16 and was transferred to the pediatric wards 1 week later. On May 31, she was transferred to the rehabilitation service with residual left foot drop. At discharge on June 22, she showed no signs of cognitive impairment and was able to walk and perform activities of daily living."
Precious reports that she believes she got the rabies 'from a cat scratch'.  However, to date, this has not yet been scientifically verified, although it bears repeating that all must be careful when around feral animals and wildlife:
"The patient resided in a rural community in Humboldt County, had never traveled outside of California, and had no travel outside the county within 6 months preceding illness onset. She had no history of having received rabies vaccine. The patient confirmed having contact with free-roaming, unvaccinated cats at her school on several occasions. She was scratched by two different cats approximately 9 weeks and 4 weeks before illness onset but reported no bites. Local public health officials implemented a program to collect and identify cats at the school. The first cat was observed to be healthy, but a reliable description of the second cat was not available. All other cats collected at the school remained healthy under observation."
All in all, this remarkable young lady beat all odds in triumphing over the onerous virus which causes 'rabies'.  Fortified by modern technology, she conquered what is considered to be a virtually 100% fatal condition, and we can only imagine what Precious and her family and health care providers have been through.
The road ahead will not be an easy one, as Precious continues to heal and rehab after this monumental episode in her life.
Surely, one never wants to be 'written up' in the 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report' (MMWR, a branch of the CDC), as this girl has...but if one 'must' be written up, this is the best of all possible outcomes!
Precious Reynolds should know that there are many of us who are 'rooting' for her and for her family and their caregivers.
We will continue to pray that this 'brave fighter', that she make an astonishing, swift and complete recovery!
Thank You Lord For This Wonderful Gift of Healing
With Love in Christ,

"Rabbi Hammerman's Religious Intolerance Of Christians: What Do We Teach Our Kids & Grandkids?" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

ABOVE:  Temple Beth El's Rabbi Joshua Hammerman and his son Ethan
Dear Ones:
Today was an interesting day.  My 16 year-old Catholic granddaughter slept over and we had an opportunity to have a refreshing and fun breakfast together before 'Grandma' got busy on the serious work 'of the day'.
It's Sunday, you see, and what I thought would be a perfect opportunity to inform and prepare my granddaughter for what she may well be exposed to in the coming week regarding one paranoid Rabbi Joshua Hammerman and his unbridled attack on all things Christian.
I told her how about the many who 'stood mute' about all of this.
I described things beforehand, told her of Hammerman's 'apologists' (The Interfaith Council of SW CT and many at Temple Beth El) and how they not only don't 'defend Christians', but instead, call Hammerman the 'victim'.
Then I read her lengthy passages of Hammerman's and my own writings.  (She doesn't like you for this, Josh, and I don't blame her!)
I told her that Rabbi Josh says she is likely to 'burn mosques, bash gays and trash immigrants'.
"Rabbi Josh 'knows' and speaks for a lot of Jews.  Rabbi Josh knows exactly how 'we Christians' will react to any given situation, you see", I told her.
After she read a bit, I solicited her opinion about things, asking, specifically, if all this brouhaha seems like the mere 'ramblings' of a Rabbi who 'misspoke' on the spur of the moment, 'clumsily' and so on and so forth.
     The answer was, "NO".
Well now.  My granddaughter is one 'smart cookie'!
Clearly, she feels as I do, which is, that Rabbi Josh, Temple Beth El, his 'apologists' and, most of all The Interfaith Council of SW CT are taking us for FOOLS!
This entire interaction was no small accomplishment for a 'mere' Sunday morning, if I do say so myself.

I concluded with the admonition that 'what Grandma Barb writes on the Internet will be around for a long time and I just wanted her to hear about all of this in context, so that she can understand what is truly happening right now.'
But in reality, there is more than this.
I included a warning to my granddaughter that in Progressive Liberal Connecticut, there are those who would bring destruction upon the 'Christian' way of life.  Even more, I elaborated, the Rabbi Hammermans of the world seem to single out Catholics in particular as a target for their repellent 'invectives'.  This is a 'thing' that they 'do' even in their phoney 'apologies' for transgressions against Christians, in fact:
I showed my granddaughter the piece where Temple Beth El's Rabbi Hammerman essentially categorizes all Catholic clergy as those who are 'into' the 'raping of little boys'.
Now my granddaughter (and daughter and all the young, middle-aged and elderly people in my life) is/are informed that not everyone is enchanted with our 'Christian way of life'.
Now we know to beware of Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, the powers-that-be at Temple Beth El, the Stamford press who has chosen to 'ignore' all of this and, most especially, The Rev. Katie Hechler and The Interfaith Council of SW CT.  Here's her letter of support for Hammerman:
These are not people who will support our God-given and United States law 'protected' right to freedom of religion!
But those I counsel are wiser now...more educated and aware.  I tell them I'm 'grateful for the warning' let loose by Hammerman's 'hate-writings'.
Never again will any of us in this Progressive Liberal area of the country take our religious rights for granted--well, not as long as Rabbi Joshua Hammerman and his apologists hold sway, at least.
And that was what transpired at breakfast this morning, for me and my Catholic granddaughter.
We had a quiet meal punctuated only by the rancid exclusivity put forth by those claiming to be 'open, inclusive and affirming' and we saw right through it!
Like many breakfasts, it turned out to be 'same stuff, different day', except that one I love is now empowered and will be able to 'deal with' those who would profer forth 'Hammerman Eugencs'.
Then in an effort to embolden and uplift my granddaughter, I reminded her of all the 'good' in the world and of all the 'good people' around us--Christian and Jew and otherwise--including one brave Sheldon Katz who is a congregant of Temple Beth El.
And there is also this encouraging letter from Maria Zlotnick, also of Temple Beth El:
With these true words of encouragement, I am hopeful that those who promote intolerance will not prevail in Stamford, in Connecticut or anywhere in the world.
Still, I can't help but wonder just what proud 'Papa' Josh is telling his son Ethan about all this, if anything?
     Has he even mentioned it?
I wonder if he is as 'open' with his son Ethan as I am with my granddaughter?
Does the Rabbi 'teach eugenics' to his son in his anti-Christian zeal as a solution to rid the world of Christians?
     I pray not.
God Bless You

As Christians, we know the following 1 Corinthians 13 passage from the many wedding ceremonies we have been witness to.
Why not take a moment now to reflect upon this passage in it's 'entirety'?
Love, Rev. Barb

" 1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
                                                                                                   1 Corinthians 13:1-13  (NIV)
Our God is a WONDERFUL God and He (not 'She'!), is God of us all...Christian and Jew, alike.
With Love in Christ!

"On 'Raping Little Boys': Another Anti-Christian Zinger By Rabbi Joshua Hammerman" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

Rabbi Joshua Hammerman (ABOVE)  on praying before, during & after an elective abortion:
Q:  When is an apology NOT an apology?
A:   When it is a fatuous, disingenuous, paranoid one from Rabbi Hammerman and it DISAPPEARS!!
Such is the case with a now-expunged so-called 'apology' Rabbi Joshua Hammerman put forth at one time.  I feel that it bears re-publication here, again, since the Interfaith Council of SW CT has unanimously decided to DEFEND and PLAY APOLOGIST for this errant Rabbi.
The Interfaith Council of SW CT has deemed it proper to deem the attacks on Rabbi Hammerman as unjustified.
     I don't think so.
Even worse, The Interfaith Council of SW CT has deemed it proper to posit Hammerman as the 'victim' while choosing to excuse the massive amount of writing the not-so-good Rabbi has published in his zealous anti-Christian bigotry as a true Christianophobe.
The original 'apology' disappeared because Rabbi Hammerman obliterated his 'blog'.  (Wonder why?)  In fact, the entire 'Hammerman-Tebow' thing flared up mid-December 2011, when 'sleepy Stamford' was in the midst of holiday preparations and celebrations...And while the pall of a terrible Christmas fire tragedy hung heavily on all our hearts.
Sure enough, while the world noticed, we here only recently learned of Hammerman's anti-Christian campaign.  But, rest assured, thanks to the marvels of the modern internet, here is this faux-apology and more, in toto.
As you read it with fresh eyes, note the 'cheap shot' Hammerman takes with his 'raping little boys comment'.  I guess verbiage like this is just 'second-nature' for the Progressive Liberal religious sector around here.
But, while Rev. Katie Hechler and her Interfaith Council of SW CT may deem this perfectly acceptable rhetoric from a member of the clergy, I certainly do not and even Hammerman's so-called 'apology' offends.
It's important that Rabbi Hammerman understand that not all Christians, evangelical or otherwise, seek to 'convert him', myself included.  This is a matter of 'discernment'.
And somebody should remind the Rabbi that here in the United States of America, he must respect the right of all to practice the religion of their choice, and that it is the LAW!
Though clearly Hammerman is not a friend of Christians, surely G-d can change his heart.
G-d can assure that Hammerman learns to live with those who are different from himself, and to do so without feeling 'threatened' in Connecticut or wherever in the world he may be.  But this can only happen if the Rabbi has an 'epiphany'.
Perhaps a miracle will occur and G-d will impel Hammerman to change his ways.
     I hopeful, but I'm also a realist.
I know that to allow Rabbi Joshua Hammerman's words, sentiments and actions and those of his apologists to go 'unchecked' in the very city where all this anti-Christian hate talk originated is very, very wrong.
It is just not right to repeatedly attempt to sweep unclean things under the proverbial rug.
Herewith is Hammerman's 'apology':
“My Tebow piece is generating the expected outrage from the evangelical right (cant’ wait for Jews to begin chiming in!)”
“I was careful in my comments not to accuse Tebow himself of potentially destructive acts but to suggest that a perceived divine mandate for Tebow could inspire mischief among the zealous evangelical right. Unfortunately, mosque burnings have already occurred in this country (and a notable Quran burning too). All it takes is one crazy person.”
“As for Tebow, he has done extraordinary things. His love for people is unbounded. His entire life’s work is also predicated on saving my soul for Jesus. He’s not alone in this. Tebow has been affiliated with the Southern Baptists, who spend millions to convert Jews, often deceptively.”
“I personally don’t consider that exemplary behavior. Is it better than raping little boys? Absolutely. But is it admirable? I have issues with anyone determined to save my soul, be that person Christian or Jewish. And when they are going after the souls of our kids on college campuses, with a multimillion dollar budget that puts the Jewish community’s education budgets to shame, I do think it is cause for concern. See for example -”
“Some Jews prefer to turn a blind eye to these practices, as evangelicals are very supportive of Israel (granted, with end-time conversions in mind). My ideal person of faith is a pluralist, one who accepts the legitimacy of my faith. Tebow does not. I do not find that admirable. ”

LINK:  one that does work:
As for myself, I will continue to reveal and fight against the type of religious intolerance Rabbi Hammerman so thoroughly manifests.  The Rabbi's 'apologists' aside, clearly this is a man who spends a great deal of time pondering, writing, publishing, editing, redacting and sometimes 'deleting' that which is dear to his heart.
This is a man who 'lives to write' and he will undoubtedly keep on writing, come what may.
There are no 'mere slips of the pen' or 'clumsy words and actions' for Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, for he writes what he believes...
     As do I.
May G-d Keep Us All Accountable & True To Him Alone

"Rabbi Hammerman's Eugenics Solution Regarding The Christians He Hates: Interfaith Council of SW CT Turns A Blind Eye" By Rev. Barbara Sexton Dear Ones Healing Ministry

The ABOVE appeared in 'The Jewish Week' Dec. 12, 2011
"The practices engaged in by eugenicists involving violations of privacy, attacks on reputation, violations of the right to life, to found a family, to freedom from discrimination are all today classified as violations of human rights. The practice of negative racial aspects of eugenics, after World War II, fell within the definition of the new international crime of genocide, set out in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.[17]"
 Dear Readers:
Recently, a Stamford, CT Rabbi Joshua Hammerman received worldwide attention for his long-winded Christianophobic rant against, of all people, the Denver Bronco's QB Tim Tebow.
It seems that Rabbi Hammerman has such an intense hatred for Tebow, and for Tebow's evangelical Christian faith in particular, that the only solution Hammerman can think of is to suggest that Tebow's mom should have killed her son in utero.
     Yes, you read that right.
Abortion advocate Hammerman goes on at length in his twisted piece, opining on Tebow's mom's pregnancy with Tim and finally giving her some truly hateful 'advice'.  Obviously he has given this a great deal of thought and spent a great amount of time writing what he did. (ABOVE)
Apparently Tebow's mom's decision really bothers Rabbi Josh Hammerman, who says:
"Tebow's mother, a Baptist missionary, became comatose during her pregnancy, and was saved by drugs that nearly killed the fetus.  Doctors anticipated a stillbirth and recommended termination to protect her life, but Tim's mother refused to abort.  Trumpeting that decision, mother and son appeared in commercials for 'Focus On The Family' during this past season's Super Bowl." (ABOVE)
Hammerman then reveals the real reason why he hates Mrs. Tebow's refusal to abort her son Tim:
"Now Tiny Tim has grown and is on track to appear in this season's Super Bowl-on the field-and that is what scares me."  (ABOVE)
To add insult to injury, Hammerman caps his phobic rhetoric with the almost unspeakable by suggesting that Tim would have been better off 'exterminated' in his mother's womb, so that he (Hammerman) would not have to be subjected to the 'Tim Tebows' of the world:
"His mom's decision to risk her own life rather than abort her fetus flies against my own-and Judaism's-values, but neither am I pro-choice in all cases."
Is it me, or is this just plain 'creepy' coming from a paranoid Rabbi?  I've stated before how repugnant I think Rabbi Hammerman's pontification towards a pregnant Christian woman is.  I'm amazed it even got 'approved' at all by editors at 'The Jewish Week' (though they might be trying to tell us something).
But this suggestion that it is 'better that Christians kill their fetuses' before they are even born is downright evil.
Someone needs to, first of all, remind Hammerman of the right to freedom of religion we all enjoy here in the United States of America.  Maybe that would help him take a 'chill pill' on this subject once and for all.
Also, someone needs to 'counsel' this warped Rabbi and his 'eugenics solution' for evangelical Christians and give him a 'morality' check, but good.
Yes, Hammerman has a right to vent in this manner, I suppose.  But, no, he does not have the right to go unchallenged by those such as myself.
For now, Rabbi Joshua Hammerman is apparently receiving tremendous majority support (except for the few of us) by not only his congregation at Temple Beth El in Stamford, CT...but by the Stamford community, itself.  Perhaps there is even a certain degree of 'ignorance of the facts' about Hammerman's hate-speech, which he originally published in the midst of the holidays while Stamford's attention was focused on other things, including a tragic Christmas fire where lives were lost.
But it is also possible that most will 'go along with' the unanimous, unconditional support of The Rev. Katie Hechler and The (progressive liberal) Interfaith Council of SW CT.
So be it.  At least we are 'warned'.
Sure there are lots of 'apologetics' here for this renegade Rabbi who are sanctifying all of Rabbi Hammerman's anti-Christian bigotry as nothing more than a 'slip of the pen' and a 'momentary lapse of proper word usage'.
But as for me...I'm not buying it, nor his 'phony apology', either.
Stay tuned for my article on that, too!
