"The Defense Department has identified two soldiers who were killed Monday in Afghanistan.
Capt. Andrew M. Pedersen-Keel, 28, of South Miami, Fla., and Staff Sgt. Rex L. Schad, 26, of Edmond, Okla., died Monday in Jalrez District after being attacked by small arms fire, according to a Defense Department news release."

"Pedersen-Keel was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, N.C., the release said. Schad was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga., it said."

 "MADISON, Conn. — The first selectman of Madison, Conn., says a soldier from the town has been killed in Afghanistan.
First Selectman Fillmore McPherson said Tuesday the parents of Army Capt. Andrew Pedersen-Keel, who live in Madison, were informed Monday of his death. McPherson said flags in Madison have been lowered to half-staff.
McPherson said Pedersen-Keel was one of two soldiers killed in an attack at a police station in eastern Afghanistan.
U.S. officials have said two special forces soldiers were killed Monday when a policeman fired at people leaving a meeting at district police headquarters in Wardak province. The Pentagon has not released their names.
McPherson said Pedersen-Keel graduated from Avon Old Farms School in 2002 and the U.S. Military Academy in 2006.
He said the town “stands ready” to offer what honors or special services the family desires.

“Captain Pedersen-Keel made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our state and our nation," said Governor Malloy. "Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and his unit during this very difficult time. We pray for a safe homecoming for our troops who are stationed around the world, and thank them for their bravery and service.”

“This is a tragic and sad reminder that even as the conflict in Afghanistan is winding down there are still hundreds of Connecticut soldiers in harm’s way,” said Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman. “Captain Pedersen-Keel and every one of the other 63 brave men and women from our state lost in Afghanistan and Iraq died defending us and our freedom, and that sacrifice must never be forgotten.”

     Please excuse my recent extended 'absence', which has been due to Hurricane Irene'.  I've been very busy and will be, yet, for a while.

     But I have some stories, photos, videos and more to share with you as soon as things settle down.  I also have some 'comments' about CL&P's 'service' to the Connecticut Community, but all that can wait!
     Suffice it to say that with all the 'anti-Tea Party sentiments and vocalizations' being expressed by our brothers and sisters in UNIONS EVERYWHERE during this past horrible week and continuing now...we will certainly be having some vital 'discussions' in the days to come.
     Surely we TEA PARTY PATRIOTS will be asking why 'once-necessary and well-intentioned' UNIONS have become the 'new war mongers' (President Barack Obama's Self-Proclaimed ARMY, no less!) of the United States...clearly intent upon initiating and fomenting a 'civil war' in America.
     Yes, we have all been suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, only to emerge from this trying time scratching our heads, wondering why our UNION FRIENDS are so bent upon harming the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT.
     Persons of faith and peace everywhere wonder just what this new Progressive-Lib 'war paradigm' is all about.
     It appalls the senses and trashes the sensitivities.
     Tea Party Patriots desire unity, peace and justice for all in our fine nation--and we certainly did not expect to be met with a contentious, belligerent and aggressive Democratic Left commandeered by UNION LEADERS!
     Does our President Obama have no sense about these things?  Does he truly believe these tactics will work to get him re-elected?
     Does the President have no conscience and discernment about what is the best for America?
     Does he truly give his 'blessing' to the war-like TEAMSTERS and other UNIONS who wish to do us TEA PARTY PATRIOTS HARM?
     As we in Connecticut and the Northeast get our 'bearings' back, we shall examine these things.
     But at this juncture, the sum total of my responses is that I plead the following things of my fellow TEA PARTY PATRIOTS: 
     Do not succumb, yourselves, to the calls for WAR and WAR-LIKE ACTIVITIES against ANYONE.
     And do not resort to any of the harmful things that the UNIONS, as well as the CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS AND OTHER 'RACE GROUPS' have set upon us!
     Treat these people, instead, with decency and dignity.  Let us do as Jesus has told us to do and try very much to love those who would insist that we are their enemies.
     There is a very real opportunity to be a 'true pacifist' here for those who are bona-fide believers in our Heavenly Father.
     As I write this, I remind myself, too, to keep my self-control in check and to greet all 'BLOWS' in a supernatural way...with a Supernatural Love.
     This is all 'only' 'politics', remember.  It is in no way WORTH jeopardizing one's mortal soul as we wind our way up to the 2012 elections.
     This 'newfound hatred' by UNIONS and BLACK RACE GROUPS towards TEA PARTY PATRIOTS will pass in time, though there is no telling how severely they intend to wound us.
     But it will all pass!!! 
     And we--if we are worth anything, at all-- must keep our eye on the prize of NOT succumbing to the lowest denominators of our 'human condition'.
     We've got to 'keep it good' and 'keep things in check', while others unravel before us.  We must 'keep it together', for ourselves, for our children and grandchildren...and, most of all...for God!
     Young people are watching us.  And they will remember and be affected by just how Mom and Pop and all the adult role models in their lives comported themselves (ourselves) at this time.
     We must lead with 'love', first and foremost.

 Dear Ones:

     YES!!! On this wonderful, beautiful rainy day, eight (8) proud TEA PARTY PATRIOTS quietly and respectfully held signs for passers-by to read.

     In a world where places like Texas and Somalia have been subjected to some of the worst droughts in history...how could we NOT love the beautiful, beautiful rain here in the N.E. that God has bestowed upon us?

     I said we were quiet and the only time we may have 'yelled' at bit was when some kindly drivers tooted their horns in support of us.

     In case they don't realize it, let me tell those 'horn-tooters' something: We appreciate your encouragement much more than you can ever know--especially in 'Progressive Liberal' SW CT!

     But rest assured, though Greenwich-Stamford TEA PARTY PATRIOTS may be small in number, our INTENTIONS are VERY LARGE.

     We want better lives for ALL people, not only in Connecticut, but all over the USA.  The beauty of Connecticut with it's diversity is that we are in a position to help ALL people here legally, both citizens and those hoping to become citizens. 

     We are in a dynamic state with the potential to really make a difference!

     From a pastoral stand-point, I say, "It is easy to be kind to those who 'like' you...but as a decent peoples--religious or not--the real challenge is to assure a good quality-of-life for all who love this country and are asking for help.

     That simply is not happening now with our current political leaders.  They haven't been able to provide people with something as simple as a JOB for years now!  CT has seen businesses driven away in droves for quite a while now.

     YES-Connecticut is a 'study in frustration' for conservatives and even for 'moderates' who aren't part of the 'old boy network'.  Yet I am encouraged at this time that we TEA PARTY PATRIOTS have the very wonderful opportunity to really make a difference and improve the lives of those in the Nutmeg state!

     WON'T YOU JOIN US?

     My precious 'plea' is to those who are no longer enchanted with the current administration state-wise and nationally.  Perhaps you will consider looking more fully into the Greenwich-Stamford TEA PARTY PATRIOTS and find out just what we really are all about.

     Predictably, we must 'do all things for ourselves' for the most part and that's okay. I would like to encourage all you 'honkers' to JOIN US at what will be regular Sunday peaceful and informative demonstrations in front of Stamford Library and other places to be announced.

     I promise you, you will make a difference--not only for yourselves, but for your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, too!

     My 'sign' reads, "LET'S HELP HEAL OUR BELOVED AMERICA!".

     I want a better future for the next generation and those to come afterwards. And that is why I am a proud TEA PARTY PATRIOT.

     In America, I expect that we each can define OURSELVES by our words, deeds and actions.  And I suggest that any 'pseudo-welcoming/affirming/inclusive' Progressive Liberals' GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

     Instead of proffering forth your own warped and corrupt 'version' of what YOU THINK the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS are all about...let's look at what is happening in our country even as we speak.

     We're 'broke'.  We're disenfranchised.  We're overly 'Obamafied' and it's time for a change.

     So if today's economic news has you down...if you are unemployed, still or again...if you are disgusted by what passes as 'acceptable' in places like Syria where the American Flag is burned and desecrated as so much trash....Just keep on keeping on with whatever you are doing with your fellow Progressive Liberal cohorts.

     But Heaven forbid you should THINK AND MAKE JUDGEMENTS for YOURSELVES!  The libs currently in power wouldn't LIKE that, would they?

     But if you've HAD IT, go to the Greenwich-Stamford TEA PARTY PATRIOTS meeting TONIGHT, details above.

     YOU can make a difference!

     YOU can stop the financial hemorrhaging of our fine country with it's ridiculous and dangerous political course under the leadership of the current administration.

     Or, you can just sit there and believe everything your beloved Progressive Lib Machine spits out at you about the TEA PARTY.

     You can just 'sit there' and believe all the 'global village hyperbole', while Chicago suffers Arizona burns and Connecticut goes bankrupt...Why should YOU care?

     But for all others, you know the drill: 

     Tonight 7-9 PM.  

     Whether Democrat or Republican or Independent, your voice needs to be heard and not just 'paid lip service to' by those with nothing more than their own selfish political ambitions.

     If you are tired of the politics of blind hate, check out the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS for yourselves and prepare for a very pleasant and encouraging experience.

     We are EVERYONE who values and cherishes the AMERICAN TRADITION, no matter who you are, where you are from, what political affiliation you have, if any,  what color you happen to be, what religion you either are or are not, what you do for a living and who your family was or is.

     I pray you, do NOT believe all the negative things you hear about the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS!

     Lies abound.  Progressive Lib politicos seek to hobble liberals and those with good intentions with fabricated stories about those 'not like themselves', which are unwholesome and patently UNTRUE!

     Please don't FALL FOR IT!

     We are all-together 'AMERICANS' in the best sense of the word and I ask you to join us, especially here in Connecticut where so many have 'lost their way' and become 'lovers of themselves' instead of 'loving others as they, themselves' would like to be loved.

     We know that all major religions of the world (and all dynamic 'life-paradigms') subscribe to some version or other of 'the Golden Rule'.

     This is part of what has made America great in the past and will, by the grace of God, make America great, again, in the future.

     Help with that at this time in history, won't you?

     Be bold, be brave and be relentless and you will be blessed no matter what your religious persuasion may happen to be, this much I can promise.

June 12, 2011 Tom Foley: Outdated policies invite a Connecticut crash The New London Day By TOM FOLEY When a test pilot takes an airplane on a risky test flight, it isn't legal to bring along passengers. Not so in Connecticut politics. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and our Democrat-controlled legislature recently passed a budget that is a reckless experiment equivalent to a test flight in a poorly designed airplane - with all of Connecticut's citizens aboard for the ride. While the federal government and every other state recognizes the broadly held policy consensus that voters want to hold the line on taxes and reduce spending, Connecticut's political leadership is stuck in a retro-policy world reminiscent of the 1960s. During the legislative session 1960s-era dogma and political pay-offs triumphed over common sense and good policy. It isn't amusing watching Connecticut adopt policy more evocative of Havana or Caracas than Shanghai or Mumbai. We are moving backward rather than forward and Connecticut's citizens will pay a big price. The world has come a long way since the 1960s. People actually believed then that more government would solve problems and steeply progressive income taxes would make a more equitable society. Most policymakers and voters now realize that there are limits to what government can do well and that, past a point, more government merely smothers private sector economic activity, slows income growth, and reduces private sector employment. Connecticut arrived at that point some time ago. We also now know that taxing people excessively doesn't make society more equitable, it just drives away ever-more mobile taxpayers and jobs, reducing everyone's income and opportunities. Because politicians and voters in the 1960s believed we could tax and spend our way out of our problems, politicians saw no need to hide what they were up to. That is not the case today. Gov. Malloy and Democrats in the legislature deceptively describe their budget as "sharing sacrifice," "reducing spending," and wringing "give-backs" out of state workers. Baloney. The facts are clear and simple. Spending in the general fund is budgeted to go up next fiscal year by over $450 million, an increase of 2.5 percent over this year. The governor's "deal" with state workers' unions includes no reduction in either the number of state workers or the overall cost of the state workforce. Gov. Malloy and the Democratic majority are closing this entire budget deficit with increased taxes amounting to more than $2.5 billion. These big tax increases will raise Connecticut's already high cost of living. Most of the increase in taxes will fall on middle-income households. Connecticut households in 2013 will pay on average more than $2,000 more in state taxes than they did last year. With average household income at $68,000, Connecticut's middle-income families will have to again cut back spending to meet their heavy new tax burden, further hurting an already weak economy. What will be the effect of this disastrous policy, other than the hardship and additional belt tightening imposed on Connecticut's citizens? The most damaging outcome will be an accelerating flight of our tax base and jobs. Connecticut is already unaffordable for many families and businesses. Rather than reducing the cost of living, the recently passed budget will both raise the cost of living and the cost of employing people. People and businesses that can leave the state will. Others who might have come here won't. Connecticut has the worst job creation record in the nation. You would think that after their dismal performance creating jobs, our politicians would be reluctant to keep pursuing the same shopworn and ineffective policies. Instead, they are stepping even harder on the accelerator, like the impulsive gambler who after losing a lot of money just keeps doubling down on the same bet. Connecticut is conspicuously alone in its "damn the torpedoes" strategy of raising taxes and doing nothing serious to rein-in spending. In New York, where Democrats also hold the governorship and control the legislature, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has pledged to reduce spending next year by 5 percent, reduce the size of the state work force by more than 10,000 people, and not raise taxes. Like a family that lived too well in the good times, Connecticut has to adjust to current economic reality. That is why when running for governor I pledged not to raise taxes and focus instead on wisely and equitably reducing spending. This policy direction doesn't originate in ideology or politics. It is simply the right thing to do and plain enough for political leaders on both sides of the aisle to recognize most everywhere, except in Connecticut. The current administration's failure to recognize the need for a change in direction will only dig the state into a deeper hole. The only good news in this confounding story is that voters seem to know they are being had. The deceptive messaging isn't working. Everything in Hartford seems too clever by half. Some think the budget doesn't reflect a policy at all, but rather an odd and un-Connecticut introduction of 1930s' style "take care of your friends" urban ward politics. Whatever it is, Connecticut isn't happy. A new poll found 71 percent of voters viewed Gov. Cuomo's policies favorably, while the most recent Quinnipiac University poll showed Gov. Malloy's rating in the mid-30s. It isn't fair that this administration is taking Connecticut's citizens for a risky ride with discredited policies perpetrated by out-of-touch politicians. If you are planning to stick around for the test flight, I suggest you fasten your seatbelt. It is going to be a bumpy ride until our leaders get in tune with the 21st century - or voters replace them with leaders who are.      I received this email from Amazon today:

Hello, For well over a decade, the Amazon Associates Program has worked with thousands of Connecticut residents. Unfortunately, the budget signed by Governor Malloy contains a sales tax provision that compels us to terminate this program for Connecticut-based participants effective immediately. It specifically imposes the collection of taxes from consumers on sales by online retailers - including but not limited to those referred by Connecticut-based affiliates like you - even if those retailers have no physical presence in the state.
We opposed this new tax law because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It was supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside Connecticut, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors. Similar legislation in other states has led to job and income losses, and little, if any, new tax revenue. We deeply regret that we must take this action.
As a result of the new law, contracts with all Connecticut residents participating in the Amazon Associates Program will be terminated today, June 10, 2011. Those Connecticut residents will no longer receive advertising fees for sales referred to Amazon.com, Endless.com, MYHABIT.COM or SmallParts.com. Please be assured that all qualifying advertising fees earned on or before today, June 10, 2011, will be processed and paid in full in accordance with the regular payment schedule.
