Dear Ones:
     It was inevitable, I suppose.  After weeks of alternately avoiding the subject and tons of obfuscation, the bastions of energized and often angry ones collectively known as the 'OCCUPY WALL STREET' crowd have come clean.
     They are finally freely admitting and publicly sharing their 'distaste' for any and all things 'Christian', a paradigm now apparently flouted, in this day and age, as a 'last acceptable prejudice'.
     I call this radical display 'CHRISTIANOPHOBIA'.
     We live in an 'era' of lexicon, especially on the Internet, where people just love their invectives and this seems to be the latest.
     Christians make good targets, of course.  Attacking 'real' Christians is safe, because you just KNOW they are going to have to forgive you, right?
     In fact, when I was a uniform-wearing member of The Salvation Army, there were times when a few particularly not-so-passive-but-very aggressive 'donor's would play a game wherein they would 'see how long they could taunt the lady (myself) in the uniform'.
     Me being me, this was not much of a challenge, save for the fact that I wondered how those so generous with their goods and money could be so very spare with kindness and decency.
     If nothing else, the experience left me with a resilience I didn't know I had (thank you God in Christ for Your Holy Spirit).
     And it leaves me 'better able' to tolerate the blatant 'Christianophobia' manifested by so many in the OCCUPY WALL STREET movement.
     But is this any way for the OCCUPIERS to gain 'sympathy' and 'support' for the OCCUPY movement?  I don't think so.
     Marginalizing and even 'bashing' Christians may be fine 'sport' for the 'young uns' in OWS camps across the nation and around the globe, but really....Is this any way to recruit anyone?
     Heaven knows, I have never believed a person would want to 'follow' a religion that turns rapidly 'punitive' should the new 'supplicant' prove either unable or unwilling to follow the dictates of a particular religious leader or 'church'.
     In fact, I am no FAN of organized religion, at all, and prefer to follow the dictates of my Lord Jesus, with the understanding that we all fall short, one way or another.
     You'll not hear me preaching in the 'holier than thou' mode, for the most part.  I always remember that not only was I 'bought at a price', but that for the first 37 years of my life I was a proud atheist/agnostic, myself.
     However, unlike the OWS OCCUPIERS, I felt no need then, during my 'Godless years' to disparage any religions, being perfectly satisfied with a 'live and let live' philosophy.
     Then I read here LINK: http://occupywallst.org/forum/occupy-christianity/  of a major resurgence of anti-Christian sentiment, coupled with not a small degree of 'ageism' by a group of young people who don't realize the folly of their own prejudices.
     Maybe 'older age' makes me philosophical and pliable enough to weather things and I may feel no need to 'do' anything, save making  this 'simple declaration'.
     So to this, I say that the OWS attitude towards us as Christians is 'CHRISTIANOPHOBIC TO THE MAX' and I do pray that everyone involved realizes it---
FOR ALL OUR SAKES.

Please, pray with me now for family and friends and all affected by the recent explosion and shootings in Norway on July 22, 2011:

Dear Father, we know that you are Lord of all...believers and non-believers, alike. 

Some of us have faith now...and others are yet to be 'gifted' with it.  And sometimes it takes a tragedy like this for us to even begin to contemplate the frailty of our existence.

And so we turn to you in our grief over the Oslo explosion and the Utoya shootings.

We pray that you will help us to accept the unacceptable.

We pray that you will strengthen us to forbear at this time, to render help, to uplift and support those whose loved ones have fallen.

And we ask that you teach each of us, dear God, to be globally compassionate in a way which honors the innocence of the precious lives just taken.

Chasten us to realize how precious life, itself, is...and how, like a candle, it can be snuffed out in a moment.

Teach us discernment, so that we may detect and protect ourselves against those who wish us harm, yet live in harmony despite humanity's many differences.

And, finally we beseech you for peace of heart, for the realization that though the body will decay, the spirit carries on, so that we may learn to make our lives have value and meaning for the short time we walk this earth.

Remind us relentlessly, Father, that love is eternal and that to love we must always turn, no matter the circumstances--

And, so, comfort grieving mothers and fathers and sons and daughters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, brothers and sisters, cousins, extended family, friends and even...pets...left behind at this time in the aftermath of these terrible tragedies.

Surely the world you made for us is big enough that we might all live in harmony!

Do grant us these things, we do humbly pray, O Lord, with tears and fears and trembling hearts as we petition YOU in our individual and universal traditions...

which for Christians is in the Name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit

"What I Know For Certain About Judgement Day May 21, 2011" By Reverend Barbara Sexton

     By now all have heard that tomorrow May 21, 2011 will be 'Judgement Day'.
     Believers will be 'Raptured', the dead first and then living believers, a 'concept' which is cherished with wondrous anticipation by many, if not most, genuine Christian believers.
     I don't know if tomorrow will be the day or not, but my advice to you is this:
     If you are a Christian striving to live in a 'state of grace', keep on doing what you've been doing.
     If you are a non-believer, I pray that you will be given the gift of faith.
     And to 'marginal' Christians, this is a good time to 'firm up' your beliefs and fully put your faith in the Lord.  Pray to God that your faith be strengthened.
     Come what may tomorrow, there are TWO things I DO know for certain:
1)  It will be a hey-day for scoffers and non-believers who will reveal the true depths of their religious intolerance and lack of understanding for Christians and other persons of faith
....and
2)  As if things were not bad enough in this world already, even today, this so-called 'day before', May 20, 2011, true followers of Christ have an even more difficult path to tread with those around them.

Dear Ones:

     On this Easter Sunday, may you be aware that--wherever you are and whatever you are doing--the Risen Lord is with you.

    You are never alone!

     At darkest night, in the wee hours of a 'sleepless morning', 'alone' in your hospital bed, the Christian is ever-accompanied by a mystery the world can scarcely comprehend: the comforting presence of the Holy Trinity.

     Rest assured that brother Christ is with you and right beside you if you but call on him in faith.  

     Be assured that our Heavenly Father hears your prayers and sends His Holy Spirit to help believers do His Will on earth.

     I know this from perilous times I've personally experienced during illness, yes, but I tell you to also be aware of the great presence and mystery of the Trinity during times of joy, as well.

     Give fair salutation to your Keepers on your wedding day...and when your children are born.

     Give thanks-in-prayer for all the goodness you have in your life.

     God, His Son and the Holy Spirit very much participate in your joyous times as they do in your trying times.

     So acknowledge them and call upon them at all times and in all ways.

     The world is the world and cannot know of the things of Heaven.  

     And those who belong to the world believe what I say here is sheer nonsense.

     Let them!

     The  Eastertide  message so STRONG and FORTHRIGHT and FIERCE that no earthly authority can ever counter or convict it!

     Many will try, but God will not be mocked, even as He wishes for as many as possible to be 'saved'.

      So I remind you, dear ones, that you will be rewarded with a way so much better than what we know here in this 'life'.

     As believers, we must 'do the best we can with what we have' in Truth and the Way.

     Then we can look ahead and backward to 'our future address' and to the place we were before we were born...and know true peace-of-heart.

"An Ash Wednesday Remembrance For You" By Reverend Barbara Sexton 'Dear Ones Healing Ministry'

Dear Ones:

Remember on this Ash Wednesday, that "it is from dust you came and it is to dust you shall return."

These are the words you pastor will say to you as he anoints your forehead with ashes, making the sign of the cross.

There are two Scripture passages for you to reflect upon today, whether you have literal ashes on your forehead or not.

If you are unable to get to a church or other place to receive ashes, consider this:

Ask the Holy Spirit to anoint your 'spirit-body forehead' and let this be your Ash Wednesday observance.

Let scoffers 'scoff'.  But even the most-hardened atheist/agnostic acknowledges what the medical community calls 'phantom limb pain' after an amputation.

Pray God these nay-sayers expand their minds to understand that 'phantom limbs' are nothing more than an amputee's 'spirit leg'!

No matter how you honor this day, here are two Scripture passages for you to reflect upon.  Please take the time to use the link provided to read the extended readings which will help you to understand the concept of 'dust-to-dust'.

"5 Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth[a] and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, 6 but streams[b] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7 Then the LORD God formed a man[c] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."    Genesis 2:5-7 (NIV)

Your pastor anoints your forehead with ashes as an 'outward sign' to the world and to yourself that you dedicate your life to our Lord Jesus Christ.

You realize that your life--all life--is precious and is 'fast-fleeting'.

The 'ashes' used on Ash Wednesday are made by burning 'last years' dried palm fronds from Palm Sunday which are saved, burned and blessed especially for this purpose.

No 'common' ashes here!

Everything in liturgical use is special in origin and utilization.

In fact, Good Christians have a sacred reverence for ALL that God has given us in the natural world...or we should have anyway.

So on this day, dear ones, take the time to reflect upon your own mortality and ask yourself the question: "If I die right now, what state of 'grace' will I be found to be in?

Is my life one which is pleasing to God, our Father and our Creator?

My prayer for all of you is that you enjoy peace-of-heart with the Lord on this solemn day, Ash Wednesday, free of doubt...and full of faith.

Dear Ones:

     Our Christian faith is only as good as what it is based upon. 
     Of course, God is our 'Anchor'. 
     And Jesus, as our Savior, roots each of us to all that is 'good' in this world and the next...if only we can manage to remember that when things get us down!
     I ask you not to give up, dear fellow Christians, wherever you may be.
     Despair is just not the way of our Lord.
      Be assured that our prayers, tithes and efforts are ever with you who are being persecuted in places like the Middle East and Europe.
     We 'uplift and support believers in the 'West', where God-hating humanists seek to harass, suppress and silence us Christians.
     We will not give up.  We will not be 'slaves to fear'. 
     God has something so much better in mind for believers and even for doubters (atheists and agnostics) who 'come to believe' in time.
     Tomorrow, Ash Wednesday, we contemplate our own mortality, a concept all too well known to us already.
     But try to be of good cheer.  Use your Ash Wednesday and Lenten time to remember that our God is a Righteous God. 
     Reflect upon His mercy and compassion, which is all around us. 
     Already we witness the work of His Mightly Hands and Heart  with a mixture of excitement and wonder.
     Don't be afraid of what is or is to come, but, rather, embrace it.
     These are 'birth pangs'--not easy to endure, but definitely survivable.
     Jesus tells us:
"6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains."

A SHROVE TUESDAY LESSON & BLESSING FOR YOU

Dear Ones:
     I've never been much of a cook, as family and friends will testify.   
     And this day, Shrove Tuesday, never fails to remind me of my shortcomings.
     My mouth waters at the thought of the traditional treats-pancake suppers and 'cakes' and such traditionally made and baked to use up the household's 'fats' as we enter the period of Lent.
      I've seen the most delicately and deliciously decorated Shrove Tuesday, Lenten and Easter treats and marvel at the skill of the women--and some men--who are capable of creating such masterpieces.
      There is no doubt that cooking, preparing, decorating, serving and offering hospitality are gifts of the Lord and ones not given to everyone.
     The Bible reminds us that we each, as members of the body of Christ, we each have different 'Gifts of the Spirit', to be used for the Glory of God and to be treasured by all.
      I don't know if being a good and appreciative 'eater' counts for anything, but it is a small way--along with this Shrove Tuesday Lesson--to let everyone know how thankful I am for my fellow Christians all around the globe.

Concerning Spiritual Gifts
1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
This means that it is impossible for the true believer to blaspheme against (speak and act against and usurp the authority of) the existence of 'God in us' which we call 'The Holy Spirit'
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Christians are to be united in the use of their various 'gifts' for the good of God first, then for others and lastly for themselves.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
We are to 'work together'-sometimes easier 'said than done'-and to not be 'jealous' of each others gifts, for we are one Christian 'family' working towards the common goal of glorifying God through His Son Jesus Christ.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
Not everyone has the same gifts and these 'gifts' will manifest in different ways.  What do you believe are your 'Gifts of the Spirit'?  If you ever feel 'jealous' or resentful that someone appears to have 'better gifts' than you do, please do not fret.  The Holy Spirit knows what is best and we are to trust in the Lord.
 Unity and Diversity in the Body
12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
No matter why Christians 'come together'...be it for scheduled worship or to prepare, serve and share a SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE DINNER, we are to do it in the spirit of unity, cooperation and most of all love.  Too often today we forget that our brothers and sisters are all around the world and that God unites us through our faith in Him.
15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
Though we may not understand God's 'Grand Design'...or even 'discern that there IS one...we trust in our Creator.  As science contributes more and more to our understanding of 'life', this passage reflects the 'awesomeness of God', be it in His collective plans for us, or in the genius of His design of our human bodies.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
This is as true of the 'actual' human body, as it is of the body of people who make up 'The Body of Christ' here on earth, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in each of us.  Whether it's cleaning toilets for a church or social service function or preaching in a finely decorated church, the believer's contribution is invaluable in the eyes of the Lord.  Whatever we do for Christ's Community is precious and valuable and will be remembered when we stand before our Maker.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.
It is not always easy to discern 'who is who' in Christ's Community here on earth.  There are many false prophets, false teachers and charlatans, no doubt about it.  And it can be difficult to determine just exactly WHAT special abilities various genuine Christians have, but with time and patience, God will let us know.  Be not 'jealous' of others' gifts, but, rather, strive to uncover those great gifts YOU may already possess without even knowing it.
Love Is Indispensable
And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
Paul sure DOES show us a most excellent way!  For now we 'enter' and 'receive' a passage in Scripture below which is familiar to almost everyone, Christian or not.  Indeed, 1 Corinthians 13 is a passage often quoted in marriage ceremonies all over the globe.
1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
The bottom line is that all the gifts in the world and all the wonderful things that some Christians are capable of count for nothing without the manifestation of genuine love.  Imagine that!  A Christian can appear to be a total  success in the eyes of the world and even to his or her fellow Christian believers.  But every believer's heart is constantly and thoroughly being examined by our Heavenly Father and those who fall short will be 'outted' as phonies.  But do not lose hope, for those previously unidentified as 'mountain-movers' will be made known to Christians everywhere, serving as a source of hope and....of course...love...all in God's good time.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
These are high ideals, not easily attained by 'the common man' were it not for the Power of the Holy Spirit within!
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
Isn't it amazing that only 'love' endures?  How can something so 'ethereal' end up being the only 'thing' that is real and enduring in the end?  Surely this is yet another gift to us from God, if only we recognize it. 
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

There is a reason why we refer to ourselves as 'Children of God' and wish to be recognized as such.  Yet what we 'glean' here on earth, working as God's 'eyes, hands, hearts and ears', is but a pale reflection of what awaits us in the Kingdom of Heaven.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Christians understand these things with their hearts.   But 'the world', while understanding the 'etheral' concepts of hope and love, claims that 'faith' is just too arcane for them to 'believe in'.  Don't they see that these are all part of the same construct? 
Let this 'Shrove Tuesday' message be one of HOPE given in LOVE through the FAITH of the world's Christians--to all those who believe already...and to those who are 'seeking'.

     I ask all in the world who read this to please join me right now to pray for Rhonda McGlinn who is in extreme pain due to an injurious fall.

Let us pray:

Lord God, hear our prayer.


We seek your Comfort when we are most in need, for we know you never fail us.


While we do not understand the purpose behind the pain and injury we might receive, we trust in your Judgement and Wisdom regarding your intentions for us.


Still, we ask, "Why must we suffer?  Why must your child Rhonda McGlinn suffer as she does?  What is your purpose for her?"


Please, Heavenly Father, relieve Rhonda's suffering and help her to discern just what is going on in her life at this time and help her to understand the reason for her suffering, and by extension, the suffering of her family and friends.


Please have mercy on Rhonda, Lord, and on all others who grieve and mourn for their loss of good health and well-being. 

Bless Rhonda with the strength and grace to bear what she must until she is healed and may her journey from pain to wellness be a testimony to you.


We are ever expectant, our loving Father...ever faithful and ever grateful and we thank you for all good things on earth and in Heaven.

     The Bible says that God is an ever-present help in time of need. God is with us. The Lord is kind and merciful, the Bible says, to all who trust in Him, to all who call upon Him. He will help us. He will help me and He will help you. We do not need to become anxious for things beyond our control. Nothing is outside of God's control. Not one thing.

     Trust in the Lord and be assured in your heart that He will act on your behalf, He gave His own Son for us all. Will He not also, with Him, freely provide for our needs? The scarier things get, the more we need to give God praise. Not because we are crazy, and not because we don't understand the seriousness of life's difficulties. But because we know that the battle is not ours. God is He who watches over us. The Lord, kind and merciful, is He who answers our prayers.
     Jesus said that the Father delights to give us the kingdom. He also taught very clearly that we are to trust God for all our needs. Did He not give us the example of the birds who do not produce goods for trading or gather food into barns? Did He not say that the Father feeds them? And did the Lord Jesus not teach us that God clothes the flowers in such rich colors - flowers of the open meadows that are here today and gone tomorrow? The Lord is good to provide and He will provide.
     It is good for us to learn to depend on God. It is good for us to trust in God, as our currency claims we do. It is good for us to know the Lord and to serve Him.
     If you find yourself staring out at the hills, or the far horizon, wondering how and when your help will come, you are not alone. Many Americans are facing times they never thought they would see. Times come and go. Storms come and go. One year is rich and fat and another is lean. But God never changes. He helps us in good times and bad. He is with us in the boat and with us along the dusty road. He is with us when we are born into this world and with us as we go out again. The Lord will not leave us or forsake us. He will carry us through the fire, through the deep waters, and all through the darkest night. The Lord will keep us. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen.

In the interest of patient safety, Pfizer and Progenics are alerting U.S. patients and physicians to Triad’s recall. Triad® Alcohol Prep Pads are packaged for use with the kit presentation of RELISTOR® (methylnaltrexone bromide) Subcutaneous Injection in the U.S. The RELISTOR vial and other components of the kit are not affected by the defective Triad alcohol pad. RELISTOR sold in single vials also is unaffected by this recall.

Pfizer and Progenics advise patients using the RELISTOR kit not to use the Triad alcohol prep pads included in the RELISTOR packaging for 1 X 7 kits and 1 X 2 starter kits. When preparing to take their RELISTOR injection, patients should use an alcohol prep pad from a company other than Triad, or use a sterile gauze pad with isopropyl alcohol.

Shipments of RELISTOR kits have been suspended until the alcohol pads can be replaced, which will be done as quickly as possible to enable patients to continue to receive RELISTOR.      Dealing with grievous illness is a difficult and stressful process for patients and their loved ones. 
     Just know that you are never really 'alone', even in those worst moments at three in the morning when you are crying your eyes out 'alone' in your hospital or sick bed.  God is there with you in a very real way, along with the souls and angels He sends to comfort you.
     When I tell you not to be afraid, it is with the the voice of experience.  Not only have I been blessed with attending many as they have left 'this life' for the next one, but I've had my own near-death experience myself, which I will write about soon.
     In the meantime, take the information I provide here and benefit from the best of both the world of science, as well as the great Realm of our Creator.
     As an atheist-agnostic for the first 37 years of my life, a student and practitioner of biomedicine, I can only tell you that the more and more I learned about the wonderments of the human body and our universe, the more convinced I became that there just HAD to be a GRAND DESIGNER!
     So, for those of you wrestling with medical issues requiring timely medical consumer 'updates', I offer you some 'spiritual encouragement' along with the science.
     Take it, learn from it and be not afraid.

Dear Ones:

        (Note for Newcomers: The Book of Revelation is the last book of the New Testament of the Bible.  Rev 8:6-13 (NIV) means "Revelation chapter 8, verses 6-13, the New International Version which Rev. Barb prefers because it is easily understandable by young and old all over the world.)
     There is no need to be afraid of anything.  But this is definitely a good time to 'get yourself on the road to being saved' if you haven't already done so.  I write this assuming that you may not have that much Bible knowledge, so we'll take it step-by-step, at your own pace.
     Here I provide you with 'my unique version of how to get saved as a Christian' in a simple, easy-to-understand way, without using a 'hard hand'.  Who on earth would want to join a 'religion' that uses threats, taunts, reprimands, coercion, bullying, brutal rules, demands for money and all the other things 'organized religions' (trans: "churches") are so famous for?
     The first followers of Christ who were just regular people and 'seekers' like we are!
     After you absorb what I have to say here, I will provide you with 'the traditional' Scripture passages we Christians use and you can begin some more formal and rigorous 'religious training' if you so choose.
     But the Message of Christ is a simple one...Simple enough, in fact, for a child to understand... and anyone who says otherwise is not being truthful.
     If you are still reading this, certainly you've come so far as to be wondering, at least, what all this Scripture stuff is about and how it relates to life today.
     That's GREAT even if you've been a devout Christian all your life.  No one, ever, cannot benefit from a 'refresher course', a 'reboot', if you will and the Lord rejoices when Believers stand with their 'new' brothers and sisters in Christ.
     I speak to you from my heart and from a unique perspective.  Being born and raised in a Russian family where religion was absolutely forbidden, I was an atheist/agnostic for the first 37 years of my life.  My 'god' was Science. 
     Yet ironically, the more scientific knowledge I gained, the more I came to realize that 'a Grand Designer's Hand' is definitely at work in our universe.
     Life is no 'accident'.  The 'cosmos' is more than just NASA and NOAA and earthquake 'LINKS' and all I'm saying here is that it is a good time to consult the 'ultimate guidebook'--the Holy Bible.
     I've joked that "When these things come to pass, we will have read the Book and now we're 'doing' the movie." 
     We've recently experienced a 'tear' in the earths' geomagnetic sphere, allowing rogue energy, solar and otherwise, to enter and escape said 'hole'.  A ten year old girl just discovered a Super Nova, now possibly existing as a 'black hole'.
     You may have noticed an increase in earthquakes, with new ones occurring in areas previously thought to be 'earthquake-free'.  We've had flooding and and snow on the West Coast of the U.S.A. and hurricanes, tornadoes and storms all over the place.
     Birds are dropping from the skies and we have 'the fish'...all the dying fish everywhere.
     Yes.  Yes, there are 'scientific explanations' for it all, kind of.
     BUT!
     The big 'BUT' is that God has ALWAYS used natural phenomena to 'make His points'!  Archaeological evidence exists that the 'parting of the Red Sea' did indeed happen and was partly due to extraordinary lunar alignments and extreme low tides.
     Egypt's 'plagues'-remarkable by story-telling standards-are now largely explained by natural phenomena ('frogs', locusts',etc)....but oh the timing.
    It's all in the timing.
    And I tell you from the depth of my heart that any of you so inclined to not be part of the world take steps NOW to assure your 'eternal address'.
    1) You do this by asking God for faith, if you think you have none.  PRAY for faith and it will be given to you, I guarantee!  Only God can give us faith, for it is a 'gift'!
    2) Earnestly understand that we humans are all flawed and in need of salvation.  We are all imperfect and perishable.  You, me, all of us.
     3)Turn to God and pledge yourself to Him.  Tell Him earnestly that you BELIEVE in Him.  Humble yourself before Him.
     4) Examine your life and all that is sinful in it...or that you think is sinful...and confess.  Promise God to cease and desist any and all of this sinful behavior and ask God to let you know if you 'missed' anything.  You will immediately start sleeping better at night.  And don't be surprised when you get 'visited' in your dreams as God examines your heart as you sleep.
     5) Start reading or re-reading the Bible and look to 'mainline Christian sources' for specific Bible passages to get you started on your role to salvation.  Read everything you can get your hands on and ask God to guide you to the Truth.  There's no right or wrong way to read the Bible.  Some start with Genesis and read through.  Some start with the New Testament and read through and then back.  Right here we are going to start with a passage relevant to 'current events'.  Choose your own favorite 'translation' based on your own 'market research' or by the recommendation of someone you know and trust.
     6)  Somewhere along the line, get baptized by water by a Christian clergy-person or by any Christian who will to do so for you.  If you have already been baptized by water, ask a minister or even any Christian capable and willing to do so to 'reaffirm' your baptism.  This can be done anywhere, not just in a church and any Christian can do it.  The water need not be from the River Jordon, or anywhere else.  It just needs to be clean and 'consecrated' for Holy use through fervent prayer by the one who is doing the Baptizing.  You needn't be completely immersed, either, just some on the head will suffice.  If anyone questions this, ask them what they say of the 'validity' of the Baptisms we do on preemies in hospital Isolettes baptized with eyedroppers of sterile, consecrated water.  And ask them if those Baptized bedside have 'true Baptism' and you will have you answer.
     7)  After you've earnestly accepted God through Jesus Christ your brother and Savior who died for YOU into your life, confess, be clean, go forth, let the Holy Spirit indwell in you at all times and spread the Good Word (the Message of Christ) yourself.  Don't be surprised if you have some 'demonic' encounters along the way.  'New Christians' are ripe 'pickin's' for a certain amount of time.  Satan WILL try to dissuade you from your new spiritual path.  But rest assured, if confronted with ANYTHING demonic or negative, simply invoke the Power of the Holy Spirit by saying, "HOLY SPIRIT INDWELL IN ME."  To command a demon or anything 'negative' TO GET OUT, say, "I COMMAND YOU TO LEAVE ME IN THE STRONG NAME OF JESUS CHRIST NOW!'.  Doing and saying these things isn't always a picnic at the time, but they work.  And the aftermath leads to incredible things. Again-don't be afraid.  Satan is 'loosed' on the earth, but only has a limited number of bad angels (demons) to harass anyone at any given time.  If you put up a strong fight in God, the bad guys will lose interest and move onto easier pickings.  And, don't forget God sends his (good) Angels to protect you, as well, during times such as this, because there really is a spiritual battle going on.
     8) Watch as your life is enriched in all ways.  You will be a blessing to those around you.  As you grow past the initial learnings as a New Christian, you will educate yourself more and more.  In every area of your life, you will begin to discern God's Hand at work where you never did before.  Prepare to be amazed.
     9)  Pray like it's your job, and then pray some more.  You will want to keep a journal, especially if you are at all troubled by #7--Satan and his minions.
   10)  Enjoy your new found faith and revel in it.  Be joyful.  Don't be afraid of anything except being separated from God, for this is the very 'essence of  HELL'!  Attend a church and worship in fellowship with others.  Remember that no one will see Heaven just by doing good works.  You don't NEED to do 'good works' as a Christian, but you won't be able to help yourself from naturally doing so because the Holy Spirit is IN YOU, alive and well and working!
(Please note that some 'religious groups' such as Baptists and Catholics may not necessarily agree with what I say here due to denominational differences.  If you wish to belong to one of these denominations, then you can take what I say above under advisement and then take the steps necessary in order to become a member of the church of your choice.  As far as I am concerned, I know in my heart that the different denominations are like different 'airlines' with different carriers and passenger lists all headed to the same destination.  The early church was 'one united' (with women playing a prominent part with our Lord, ahem) and I've no doubt that it shall be that way at the end of the world, God be Praised!)
      Now, onto today's Scripture Reading.  At first 'blush', what do these passages mean to you?

Revelation 8            The Trumpets

"6 Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
