     It's not often that I will use the word 'honest' with anything 'progressive-lib Dem', but here I am.  Here film maker  Davis Guggenheim (known for his "An Inconvenient Truth") gets it right.  FINALLY, what I have been saying about the 'dumbing down' of our kids through our school systems for a l-o-n-g---t-i-m-e is DOCUMENTED in a most poignant and heartbreaking way.

"It's the age old debate. How do we keep our kids in school and keep them motivated when it's hard enough to get them to class?. Once there, as the film points out, they've got a 50-50 chance that their teacher will actually be a decent teacher. According to Guggenheim, the system is so broken, bad teachers are allowed to stay, even if it's been proven they are performing poorly in the classroom. Everybody knows who they are, but there's nothing administrators can do. The film points to union contracts and tenure, saying they often give teachers a solid spot in the classroom. Good or bad."      Yes, it's rough stuff, but healing must begin with a purging and cleansing of all PUTRID MATTER before healthy 'tissue' growth can occur and flourish and replace the bad. This movie may well be a part of that process for our school systems, on a national as well as on a local level.
     But we'll just have to wait and see if anyone is actually MOTIVATED TO ACTION.
     Inertia seems to 'rule the day' when it comes to BIG AND INTIMIDATING ALBATROSSES such as TEACHERS and other UNIONS.
     The bottom-line is that people are SCARED of the UNIONS and are scared of making WAVES with UNIONS.
     It's sad, really. During my poor childhood years, Pop was always a blue-collar champion of employee working conditions as an independent safety engineer.
     I keep in me to this day his horror stories of avoidable foundry accidents, amputation injuries, machinery malfunctions, etc to the point that I didn't want to eat a hot dog or lick an envelope ever again and that was the least of it!
     Over and over, my blue-collar Dad emphasized how 'the UNIONS' were there to 'protect the guys'. Unfortunately, I also overheard him discussing the INTIMIDATION against company bosses and their properties. After one-too-many 'spiking' stories, I began to have nightmares that my own father would be hurt, himself by getting mixed up in a scuffle.
     He wasn't, because he was roundly well-liked, but what did I know? Dad fought his heart out for what he believed in--and as his first 'son', I was taught to do so also.
     UNIONS CAN DO SO MUCH GOOD, PEOPLE!  USE THE POWER YOU HAVE TO DO SO NOW.  BE BRAVE AND TAKE ACTION AND HAVE THE COURAGE OF YOUR CONVICTIONS, ALL OF YOU...AND ESPECIALLY YOU TEACHERS' UNIONS MEMBERS!
      I suppose the timing couldn't be any better for this film 'WAITING FOR SUPERMAN' to be achieving the notoriety it has. 
     Speaking of Unions and 'intimidation', even here in Stamford, CT, controversy has arisen over the use of a book "It's Perfectly Normal" in the Stamford school system.  You can read about this graphic sex book which found it's way into the reading bins of TEN YEAR OLDS here:

     I'd love nothing better than to be able to officially inform all Stamford parents and other taxpayers that "It's Perfectly Normal" has not and will not reach the hands of any students too young to be able to handle such a graphic sex book.  But, alas, no one has been forthcoming, so all I can ask is, "Parents, do you know what's in your child's reading bin?"
     It has been brought to my attention that any CONCERNED PARENTS, TEACHERS and other TAXPAYERS can attend a Community Forum on Sept 30, 2010 at Westover Magnet School at 7:00 pm with their questions/comments. 

     The Stamford School System and I go way back--32 years, to be exact, and all I can say is 'Thank God for (the old) SACRED HEART'!
     I may not be one to 'wait for Superman'...but I wouldn't mind waiting on some fierce LEADER-TYPE noble educators to 'smarten up' and start organizing for their students instead of for their selves.
     'Organizations' never do any good--it's the brave and selfless souls in them who do it and and, boy, do we need some now.

Dear Readers:

     Here is an email I received as a proud member of the TEA PARTY PATRIOTS, which explains once and for all 'what we are about'.  There are plenty of detractors, imposters, prevaricators and 'operatives' who want nothing more than to convince the American public that the 'TEA PARTY MOVEMENT' is fragmented, disorganized and incoherent.

      If you remember nothing else, be assured that, as I've been saying, the TEA PARTY has NO INTENTION OF RUNNING IT'S OWN CANDIDATES  as 'spoilers' against existing political parties.  Anyone 'running' as a self-proclaimed TEA PARTY MEMBER CANDIDATE is a FRAUD AND IMPOSTER. 

     No surprise there and I guess it's a tribute to the validity and apparent strength, now, of our TEA PARTY MOVEMENT, that mischief-makers are trying to impersonate 'us'

TEA PARTY PATRIOTS TPP Statement on Tea Party Political Party

 

Dear Fellow Tea Party Patriots,
There is much talk of the formation of a third political party based on the tea party movement. Additionally, in several states, including Michigan, unscrupulous individuals have formed third parties utilizing the tea party name in an attempt to play dirty politics and trick unsuspecting voters into voting for candidates who are being put on the ballot simply to split the vote.

Tea Party Patriots is issuing this statement in order to make it clear that we are not associated with any attempts to form a third party. Additionally, we believe that such efforts, even those that might be well intentioned, are unproductive and unwise at this time. The history of third party movements in this country is one of division and defeat. We believe that it is instead time for all Americans to rise up and demand appropriate reform within their own existing parties. The mechanisms exist for citizens to participate in their parties, and to drive their parties in the right direction.

The Tea Party Patriots encourage all citizens to get involved in the party process, and to reshape their parties into something in which they may once again believe. This country does not belong to any one party, nor does it belong to the career politicians. And it certainly doesn't belong to people who would like to trick you into voting for "tea party" candidates so you will waste your vote. This country belongs to the citizens.

As Benjamin Franklin once said, "We have given you a republic madam, if you can keep it." The founders knew that it would be our sacred obligation as citizens to get involved, and to work hard to hold on to this great nation. We have much work to do, and future generations will look back in judgment. We hope you will join us in preserving the republic.

You are the heart and soul of the Tea Party Movement. Thank you for promoting the causes of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets with us!

Greetings Patriots!
Highlights from last week...
Friday's mini tea party in Greenwich in front of the YMCA. My spirits were lifted. This was the rowdiest traffic session I have seen in 5 weeks. Honks, cheers, thumbs up and windows rolling down to accept flyers for our upcoming Tri-State Liberty Summit (sign up ASAP, below). Now that's what I'm talking about! Come on down. Let's keep encouraging ourselves and others out there. We are not alone. The sidewalk conversations are enlightening. The party of 'know' is growing.

Saturday's mini tea party in Stamford at the Ferguson..."Are you voting in November?" Many, many 'no's. But many decided to take a look at the candidates running for office. It's only May and have you ever seen so much interest in who is going to be representing us in government? The tea party movement is in full election process education mode. August and November are going to truly be the PEOPLE's ELECTION not WASHINGTON's SELECTION. The status quo has got to go.

Corey Brinson's meet and greet Monday night-Corey is running to "Inspire Connecticut". He is ready to champion the movement to encourage fresh blood to become politically involved. From getting more people to go to the polls to advocating for the average persons to run for office, Corey is the candidate that can inspire and motivate, Run for office or run a business, success lies within each of us. With representation that will make it easier to do so CT's citizens will elevate themselves once again. And as part of his duties of Secretary of State he will insure that each candidates meet the qualifications to run for office. "Elections matter". The voting process must be fraud free. The voters will be protected with Corey Brinson, Secretary of State.

GRASSROOTS SUPPORT NEEDED TO OUST TOM GAFFEY.
It’s official. There’s a brand new candidate in the 13th Senatorial District (Cheshire, Meriden, Middlefield, Middletown) to unseat long time incumbent Democrat Senator Thomas Gaffey, the co-Chairman of the legislature’s Education Committee. The candidate who will undoubtedly oust Gaffey is Len Suzio from Meriden. Suzio served as a member of the Meriden Board of Education for 14 years, serving as the Board’s Vice President from 2007 to 2009, and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Cheshire Academy. In addition, Suzio is married with 5 children, 2 of whom were home schooled for a time. Suzio not only has experience concerning public school, private school, and home school issues, he has a tremendous background in economics and finance. He holds a BS from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Economics, was named Connecticut Banker of the Year in 1983 by the U.S. Small Business Administration, and is a principal in GeoDataVision, a bank consulting firm where he works as an expert in bank compliance regulations, with a specialty in the Community Reinvestment Act and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
The District’s nominating convention will be held on Thursday night, May 13, 2010 at 7p.m. Len Suzio needs your support. Please bring your families and your signs to the convention meeting, and tell the community and the state that Gaffey must Go and Suzio must Stay. Help spread the word and be part of the excitement Thursday night, 7p.m. at the Community Center, 405 Main Street, Middlefield, next to the fire station. Kids are welcome.

     Well, THIS pretty much makes me sick!  What is WRONG with people that they are so heartless as to let someone who is DYING just LAY there without HELPING them?  I'm probably preaching to the choir here, since it's unlikely any 'guilty passers-by' will read this.  But, still, it makes you wonder what people can do to make this world a better place.
     My advice is to GET INVOLVED.  TAKE THE RISK OF CARING.  Read this NY Post article here, if you haven't already and watch the awful video:
FURY OF SLAIN HERO'S KIN
A homeless good Samaritan who lay dying on a Queens sidewalk as two dozen coldhearted pedestrians strolled by wouldn't have acted so callously, his grieving family said yesterday.

"That shouldn't have happened," said Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax's cousin, Edwin Tacam. "Hugo wouldn't have done that."
Tale-Yax, 32, was repeatedly stabbed in the chest at 5:40 a.m. last Sunday while rescuing a woman from a knife-wielding thug on 144th Street near 88th Road in Jamaica, cops said.
A surveillance camera later caught 25 passers-by walking past him -- including one who stopped to snap a photo of the dying man on his cellphone.
Firefighters did not receive a 911 call until 7:23 a.m.
The native of Guatemala had eked out a living doing odd jobs but was out of work and had recently lost his home.
"He lost his life trying to help someone else. That's brave," Tacam said. "He was a hero."
Police said they still had no suspects.
