     Seriously, sometimes I think I am in the 'twilight zone'.

     Earlier today while wading through news articles (and dearth of the same on this hush-hush scandal) of LGBT 'icon' Larry Brinkin...the fellow who coined the phrase 'domestic partner' and is a major proponent of 'same sex' marriage and who has been arrested for allegedly owning/collecting child porn with a distinctly racist flavor to it...

     ...I came across this:  The strange and 'otherworldly' case of Stonington, CT pediatrician Dr. Todd Parrilla with his own pending case after being charged with possessing, distributing and receiving images of child pornography, in his case, obscene pictures of little boys.

      Yes, you see, in my research, I noted 'June dates' for creep Parrilla and could hardly believe my eyes when I perused virtually identical articles about him, only they are dated about a year apart.

     Back around August 2011, here's what went down: 

"Parrilla was arrested early Tuesday morning by FBI agents after an undercover operation linked him to a file sharing site. Authorities seized 104 photos of adolescent white males. None were his patients."

     Okay, so we know that creep Parrilla likes little boys.  And we also know that the good doctor gets an initial 'easy pass' thanks to a certain liberal judge.

     U.S. District Court Judge Thomas P. Smith belittled the gravity of the offense of downloading/reacting to numerous pedophile images of little boys when he told Stonington pediatrician Dr. Todd Parrilla, "Eventually this will all be behind you," Smith told Parrilla from his bench in the Hartford courtroom. "I've seen many cases like this; this is a legal problem. You're going to get over it."

     So what's a 'few' photos?  Here's what a year's worth of investigation revealed:

"Prosecutors say an analysis of the seized computers and hard drives revealed more than 100,000 images and more than 10,000 videos depicting child pornography.

The pornography included images of boys under the age of 12 engaging in sexually explicit conduct, authorities said. Some of the material portrayed sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence, prosecutors said."

     OOPS!  Apparently Dr. Todd Parrilla had 'quite a bit more' than just 104 dirty pictures of boys engaged in sex acts.  A LOT more, actually.

     Yet not only did liberal Judge Smith seek to minimize and downplay the initial  Parrilla evidence, but he also seemed to regard this pedophile pornography proclivity as nothing much to be concerned about--kind of like repeat JAY-WALKING, you know?

      Ergo the 'home confinement'.

     But where I come from, this is perhaps one of the most profound cases of Progressive Liberal justice in Connecticut--ever--gone awry.  It serves to remind us, one and all, just how many LGBT shenanigans are afoot in our fair nutmeg state and of just how many 'apologists' there are for this type of behavior.

     And right under our noses!

     Now, I know that there will be cries of 'not all homosexuals are pedophiles', but let's make this perfectly clear:  Dr. Todd Parrilla definitely likes adolescent white boys:

     Got it?  Good.  Now understand that, contrary to Judge Smith's beliefs, Dr. Todd Parrillo is NOT going to 'get over it', or get over 'anything' related to his sexual inclinations, not now...and not ever.

     The brains of guys like Parrillo are 'hard-wired' to respond as they do, again and again.  No judge, no doctor, no injection, no home confinement, no restrictions, no jail and no therapies save INCARCERATION AND REMOVAL FROM SOCIETY AND FROM CHILDREN (BOYS) IN PARTICULAR will provide anyone any degree of safety from this sexual predator!

     Shame on this horrendous liberal mindset--This is SERIOUS!  Parents, please protect your children since those in positions of trust obviously WON'T!

    How chillingly these words of Justice Smith ring now that we are better understanding of the true extent of Dr. Todd Parrilla's extensive child pornography collection:

"Smith also noted that the FBI investigation found no evidence that Parrilla ever made the leap from viewing photos and videos to taking any action against any young person. He said he poses no risk to the community." 

     YEAH--WHAT'S A LITTLE PEDOPHILE PORNOGRAPHY FOR A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY WHO 'GETS' TO INTIMATELY REACT WITH NAKED AND SEMI-NAKED LITTLE KIDS ON A DAILY BASIS AS A PEDIATRICIAN?
     AND, LET ME ADD: 'NOT THAT WE KNOW OF YET(did Dr. Creep molest any patients), BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO ALSO, DON'T YOU THINK?

     Is it me, or is there something wrong here?
     Like I said above,  it's 'twilight zone' all around today.

     In a world of 'bad news', here is a remarkable medical story about Precious Reynolds of Willow Creek, CA who is but the third patient EVER to recover from clinical rabies in the United States without having received rabies inoculations immediately after being 'infected'.

     From a medical standpoint according to the CDC, 

"In May 2011, a girl aged 8 years from a rural county in California was brought to a local emergency department (ED) with a 1-week history of progressive sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and weakness. After she developed flaccid paralysis and encephalitis, rabies was diagnosed based on 1) detection of rabies virus–specific antibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), 2) a compatible clinical syndrome in the patient, and 3) absence of a likely alternative diagnosis."

     Health care providers launched an all-out effort to determine exactly what the problem was.

     Initially, the patient was treated for dehydration due to a 'presumed viral illness', after which point all avenues were opened for exploration as the patient deteriorated neurologically and immunologically with attendant pulmonary and cardiac problems.

     Due to developing 'signs and symptoms', a differential diagnosis was made to rule out both EV (enterovirus) and West Nile Virus (WNV) and ultimately testing results suggested that it would be prudent to test for the rabies virus:

'On May 4, 2011, the California Encephalitis Project at the California Department of Public Health Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory (VRDL) was asked to urgently test for enterovirus (EV) and West Nile virus (WNV). Enterovirus testing was requested because of the well-described cross-reactivity of EV and rhinovirus in molecular testing. PCR assays for EV and rhinovirus performed on respiratory samples showed no RNA for EV, but rhinovirus was detected. Serologic testing for WNV was negative. VRDL suggested testing for rabies, given the compatible clinical syndrome, and subsequently detected immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) rabies virus–specific antibodies in serum by indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) testing."

     Finally, with a presumptive diagnosis of rabies, the patient was 'treated' with the understanding that there is, essentially, 'no known cure for a clinical case of rabies infection'.  The patient was placed in a 'therapeutic coma' and treated for the various physiological irregularities that manifested themselves in short order, including hypertension and supraventricular tachycardia.

"With a presumptive diagnosis of rabies, the patient was sedated with ketamine and midazolam and started on amantadine and nimodipine to prevent cerebral artery vasospasm, and fludrocortisone and hypertonic saline to maintain her sodium at a level >140 mmol/L. Neither human rabies immunoglobulin nor rabies vaccine was administered."

     Thanks to a strong immune system and excellent supportive care, Precious began spontaneous movements as her body started to 'recover' from the viral insult:

"On May 8, the patient moved her head spontaneously. Over the next few days, she moved her head more, then began moving her arms and then her legs. With progressive improvement in her strength, she tolerated extubation on May 16 and was transferred to the pediatric wards 1 week later. On May 31, she was transferred to the rehabilitation service with residual left foot drop. At discharge on June 22, she showed no signs of cognitive impairment and was able to walk and perform activities of daily living."

     Precious reports that she believes she got the rabies 'from a cat scratch'.  However, to date, this has not yet been scientifically verified, although it bears repeating that all must be careful when around feral animals and wildlife:

"The patient resided in a rural community in Humboldt County, had never traveled outside of California, and had no travel outside the county within 6 months preceding illness onset. She had no history of having received rabies vaccine. The patient confirmed having contact with free-roaming, unvaccinated cats at her school on several occasions. She was scratched by two different cats approximately 9 weeks and 4 weeks before illness onset but reported no bites. Local public health officials implemented a program to collect and identify cats at the school. The first cat was observed to be healthy, but a reliable description of the second cat was not available. All other cats collected at the school remained healthy under observation."

     All in all, this remarkable young lady beat all odds in triumphing over the onerous virus which causes 'rabies'.  Fortified by modern technology, she conquered what is considered to be a virtually 100% fatal condition, and we can only imagine what Precious and her family and health care providers have been through.

     The road ahead will not be an easy one, as Precious continues to heal and rehab after this monumental episode in her life.

     Surely, one never wants to be 'written up' in the 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report' (MMWR, a branch of the CDC), as this girl has...but if one 'must' be written up, this is the best of all possible outcomes!

     Precious Reynolds should know that there are many of us who are 'rooting' for her and for her family and their caregivers.

     We will continue to pray that this 'brave fighter', that she make an astonishing, swift and complete recovery!

     Recently, both cantaloupe and now LETTUCE has been recalled due to contamination with the bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes (pronounced: list-TEAR-ee-ah  mah-no-sye-TAHGE-en-eeze).

     BUT, while the original LETTUCE recall was limited to Oregon, Washington and Idaho, per the FDA, now as of Sept 29, 2011, the recall notification is EXPANDED to cover product shipped to 19 states (highlighted below and CANADA):
"September 29, 2011- True Leaf Farms is expanding its voluntary recall of romaine to include 2,498 cartons of chopped or shredded romaine because of the potential of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The initial recalled product was shipped between September 12 and 13 to a retail food service distributor in Oregon who further distributed it to at least two additional states, Washington and Idaho.
At the request of the US Food and Drug Administration the recall notification is expanded to cover additional product shipped to wholesale food service distributors in 19 states and Alberta, Canada. The states include Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Vermont. All the romaine affected by this recall has a "use by date" of 9/29/11.
No illnesses related to this finding have been reported."

     But for your convenience and edification, these are Rev. Barb's recommendations at the present time regarding this Church Brothers, LLC Listeria romaine LETTUCE contamination:

1)  Absolutely avoid any and all chopped romaine LETTUCE 'processed' by Church Brothers, LLC/True Leaf until the full extent of this contamination is definitively determined.

2)  Check the 'brand names' of all the produce you buy against 'brand name lists' published on the FDA and CDC websites and here ABOVE at www.DearOnesHealingMinistry.blogspot.com/  Check back here regularly for UPDATES on this LETTUCE situation, as well as for articles on the cantaloupe contamination, as well.

3)  Even if your state is not listed above, be aware that not all distributions patterns of this fresh produce have necessarily been determined, let alone revealed to the public.

4)  Although NO ILLNESSES TO DATE have been associated with this chopped Romaine lettuce contaminated with Listeria, maintain a 'high index of suspicion' until the full epidemiological study is completed for this FDA Recall.  Be sure to see your health care provider IMMEDIATELY if you suspect that you may have a food-related illness and/or symptoms of the same.  DO NOT DELAY, especially with the young, the old and with those who are immunocompromised.

5)  Although, to date, only chopped Romaine LETTUCE from Church Brothers, LLC/True Leaf Farms has been determined to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, be aware that their other products MAY also be contaminated.  See the yellow highlighted list of vegetables above. 

6)  Since we, the consumer, does not know exactly what Church Brothers, LLC/True Leaf Farms' 'Specialty Products' are, be wise when you purchase your produce and take care to know determine the source of the food you and your family and friends eat.

7)  Although only RETAIL chopped Romaine LETTUCE is implicated in this Listeria Recall so far, be wary of 'bulk salad and vegetable' points of purchase, such as at 'salad bars' and in restaurants and other food-selling facilities.  Use your COMMON SENSE, but also check online frequently using the LINKS you have been provided with here.

8)  In this day-and-age of questionable food safety, take care to wash and scrub the vegetables and fruits you can (I prefer warm watch and dish detergent followed by a strong water rinse)...And to give a good 'soaking and rinsing' for those that cannot be 'scrubbed'.  Please note that with Listeria, it is possible that the 'inside' can be contaminated, so that even a good scrubbing on the outside will not necessarily assure consumer safety.  Chopped Romaine LETTUCE has it's own particular set of problems sanitation-wise, since it cannot be scrubbed, subjected to too-warm water and it has the further 'detriment' of having been handled more than the intact stalk of Romaine would be.  In addition, the 'chopping process' greatly increases the available surface area for potential bacterial contamination wherever pathogenic bacteria are present.

9) Finally, it is prudent to 'rotate food'.  In other words, try not to eat the same thing day-after-day, even if the food you are eating will be prone to spoiling before you can finish it.  "Greens" nowadays can be every bit as deadly when contaminated as the rawest of meats and other foodstuffs capable of causing food-poisoning.

     Hopefully, this Listeria contamination source will be swiftly identified and dealt with.

President Obama says he opposes same-sex marriage for religious reasons. Fourteen years ago, however, while a churchgoing Christian and a state legislative candidate, he endorsed the right of gays and lesbians to marry.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sponsors of Proposition 8, California's ban on same-sex marriage, cited Obama's current position in their 2008 campaign and have quoted him in their defense of the measure during a federal court trial in San Francisco. Gay rights groups, noting that Obama actually opposed Prop. 8, have urged him to take a stance on the lawsuit, without success.
What has received much less attention is Obama's unexplained reversal of the position he once held backing same-sex marriage - the position still held by the church he attended for most of his adult life.
Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate in Chicago in February 1996 when he answered a questionnaire from a gay-oriented newspaper, Outlines, on gay rights issues. One of his answers was, "I favor legalizing same-sex marriage, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages."
The Windy City Times, which later acquired Outlines, said it interviewed Obama in 2004, when he was a state legislator running for the U.S. Senate. In a January 2009 article recapping the interview, the newspaper quoted him as saying he no longer supported same-sex marriage "primarily just as a strategic issue," and not because he had changed his philosophy.
Religious connotation
"I think that marriage, in the minds of a lot of voters, has a religious connotation," Obama said, according to the article. "I know that's true in the African American community, for example." Instead, he endorsed civil unions, a designation that did not exist in 1996.
Obama takes the same stance today - yes on equal rights and civil unions, no on same-sex marriage - but attributes the distinction to his religious convictions.
As he put it in an August 2008 presidential candidates' forum, "I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian ... it is also a sacred union. God's in the mix."
He is far from unique among presidents in changing positions he held before his election. But presidents usually attribute their turnabouts to external events or congressional resistance.
Differs with Obama's church
Obama's reference to his religious convictions about marriage also contrasts with the position of the
denomination with which he has been most closely associated, the United Church of Christ.
Obama attended the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago for 20 years and has said he found his faith there. He resigned in May 2008 during an uproar over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sermons that labeled the United States a racist, warmongering nation......
