Dear Ones:
     Yes, the various images of the sun have been quite spectacular lately.
     Some might even call them 'beautiful', but only in the context of 'beautiful, but daunting'.
     The image above is but a minuscule reflection of the violent and tumultuous universe around us--a universe which, once in a while commands our attention, as it does today.
     Recent NOAA 'Space Warnings' pages have been rift with all sorts of bar, colors, stars and blurts, the likes of which we do not often see all at the same time.

     Surely most of us know by now that 'something's up' because even the popular media has picked up on 'news of the sun'.  We ALL want to know what is going on. 
     Well, for a while now, I've been providing space weather 'Tutorials' in an effort to prepare readers for what we are now witnessing.
     Just click on the keyword 'Tutorials' below and you can easily bring yourselves up-to-date.

     Considering that things will be ratcheting up to a solar activity crescendo sometime in 2014, it might be worth your while to save as reference the links and information I have posted for you here over the past few years.

     What we are witnessing now is the result of a so-called 'solar minimum', wherein the sun's activity becomes 'dimished' overall, on the large-scale of things.
     But, when the sun DOES erupt, the 'show' is more profound than it would be during a 'normal cycle'.  
     Experts tell us that 'solar minimums' come around every one hundred years, or so.

     As such, satellite transmissions will be affected/disrupted due to the increased 'proton storm activity' as charted below due to solar activity right now:

     Dolphins and other creatures whose navigating systems are dependent upon a 'constant, reliable earth's magnetic field' are being beached and otherwise detoured.
     I suspect that migrating birds and other species will also exhibit atypical behaviors and patterns, as well.
     The reason for this is that our planets magnetic field has been 'jogged', but good, as a result of all the solar energy affecting not only the earth's atmosphere, but the earth, itself, as well:

     Additionally, radiation levels at high altitudes will be higher than normal, to the point that air travel patterns will be altered.
     Radio 'bursts' will affect our radio transmissions.  We can expect interruptions in cell phone and computer services.
     And finally, we must prepare ourselves for extremes of weather on earth due to the impact of all this on-going solar flare energy on planet earth.
     Just how this will manifest is not always predictable and we cannot always specifically know, although educated guesses can be made.
     We would do well to be on the lookout for volcanic, tornadic, tsunamic, and seismic activity, most likely coupled with fierce rain, snow, wind, flooding, dust and other weather-related 'events'.
     Below is a 'look' at solar 'wind' at the present time.  You should be aware that there is always a lag-period of from 2-5 days (approx.) between the time energy-in all of it's manifestations--'flares' off the sun, and the moment when it impacts the earth's atmosphere and then earth, itself.

     Above is a graph of the 'planetary K index' which is directly related to 'Geomagnetic Storm' activity.  I have shown you how it is correlated with seismic, tornadic and other activity on earth many times recently (see keyword 'TUTORIALS' below).

Dear Ones:
     You might be noting some 'extreme weather' in the form of tornadoes, etc., across the country today...or some 'other' day, for that matter. 
     I just want to point out that this correlates with some unstable 'space weather'...the energy of which is hitting the earth from the sun.
     Overall, our 'sun' is in what we call at a 'Solar Minimum'.  What this means is that while overall sun activity (in the form of solar flares and concurrent x-ray, electrical, proton, radio and other energy forms) occurs less frequently...the 'flare-ups' often stronger when they do occur.

     As I have detailed in my 'Tutorials' (click below), when solar energy from a solar eruption manages to hit our planet, it is manifested in many ways, such as earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, etc. 
     Don't forget that the earth, itself, is the source of energy from down below the earth's crust, all the way down to it's core.  This 'earth energy' can combine with the 'geomagnetic storm energy' from the sun, resulting in earthquakes and the 'geomagnetic storms' of movie fame.
     Sometimes there is a 'lag period' of several days before we 'notice' anything here...and sometimes there is hardly any lag period at all.  Many factors enter into play, as you will learn.

     Be sure to check NOAA's "Current Space Weather Warnings in effect" if you detect some foul weather coming your way so that you can judge for yourself how intense the activity might be for you and your loved ones locally.

Dear Ones:
     Recently there has been a great deal of 'space weather' (solar activity, more specifically) which is affecting the earth.  The energy from the sun 'affects' us in the form of earthquakes, among other things, and a preliminary magnitude earthquake of 7.5 has hit Indonesia.
     Given that the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) has determined a 'depth' of 14.2 km, this is a quake which could produce tsunami problems.  In general, the 'shallower the quake', the worse the surface damage.

     There have also been powerful tornados and storms in Texas today...not surprising when we look at a map of the Kp (planetary Kp index, that is) which is a reflection of the energy hitting the earth which manifests itself as a 'geomagnetic storm'.

You know what the above NOAA warnings chart means? It means you should look up at the sky tonight and tomorrow for a potential light show known as the 'aurora borealis' aka 'northern lights'.


There's been a massive CME (coronal mass ejection). This means that all the solar Tutorials I've tortured you with (if you played along) these many months have not been for naught. Dear Ones:
     Have you noticed the recent 'extreme weather events' recently?  Have you noticed excessive winds in the form of storms and tornadoes?  Are you wondering why we are predicted to have a more severe hurricane season than usual?...Have you even noticed periodic 'interruptions' on your cable t.v. transmissions and satellite disruptions?

June 4, 2010: Earth and space are about to come into contact in a way that's new to human history. To make preparations, authorities in Washington DC are holding a meeting: The Space Weather Enterprise Forum at the National Press Club on June 8th.                                            

Many technologies of the 21st century are vulnerable to solar storms. [more] Richard Fisher, head of NASA's Heliophysics Division, explains what it's all about:
"The sun is waking up from a deep slumber, and in the next few years we expect to see much higher levels of solar activity. At the same time, our technological society has developed an unprecedented sensitivity to solar storms. The intersection of these two issues is what we're getting together to discuss."


The National Academy of Sciences framed the problem two years ago in a landmark report entitled "Severe Space Weather Events—Societal and Economic Impacts." It noted how people of the 21st-century rely on high-tech systems for the basics of daily life. Smart power grids, GPS navigation, air travel, financial services and emergency radio communications can all be knocked out by intense solar activity. A century-class solar storm, the Academy warned, could cause twenty times more economic damage than Hurricane Katrina.

From our friends at NASA (and you couldn't make stuff like this up if you TRIED!), the planet Jupiter has, apparently, lost one of it's 'rings'.  Yep, that's right.  "This is a big event," says planetary scientist Glenn Orton of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.      In my opinion, this not something to worry about TOO much.  It may well be that the 'apparent disappearance' is nothing more than a grand cosmic 'leger-der-main' wherein the missing cloud belt is merely obscured from view for the time being.  We'll just have to wait and 'see'.

Dear Ones:

     Perhaps you are wondering what is happening in the USA regarding the violent, unpredictable weather.  You are probably being told that this is all 'perfectly normal', 'part of a normal cycle', 'is the result of global warming', 'is the result of the lie of global warming' or something similar or even totally unique.  Here is the truth:
     As I write this, the sun is actively 'erupting'.  One of the areas of activity is 1057 (11057), with class eruptions--in order of most violent to least, in terms of the 'class of flares'--that is about as high as I have seen since I've started my Tutorials for you. (Note: in the search bar at the top of the page, type in 'Tutorial' for my earlier articles). 
     For those who have been following along, here are the probabilities for various class flares on/from the sun which will emit energy which will eventually hit earth and wreak all sorts of havoc:

     Over the past weeks and right now, there is a great deal of 'solar wind' activity (the throwing 'off' of solar energy into space, some of which is directed towards and 'hits' earth). Link:  http://www.visi.com/~brainiac/solar  
     The visual manifestation of the sun's energy hitting earth is manifested in what is known as the 'hemisperic auroral power input' and measurements of it have been very high lately...as high a 8.0, in fact, on a scale of 1.0-10.0.  Maybe you've seen pictures of or witness "Northern Lights", the 'Aurora Borealis'.
Link: http://www.visi.com/~brainiac/solar/aurora.shtml Those of you have been following along know that this auroral power input is what is actually affecting the earth and is what determines 'how bad' our geomagnetic storms on earth are and will be. 
     Also, at present, I have observed that the mid-elevation risk of even severe geomagnetic storms by percentage is as high as ever with each burst of solar activity.  I've already discussed what geomagnetic storms are previously.  For now, you need to be on the look-out for interrupted radio transmissions, cable and computer problems, electric arcing and shocking near electrical equipment and all sorts of communication's failure. 
     I believe that the disturbed electrical atmosphere of earth is contributing to the sporatic reports of Toyota software and hardware 'glitches', which have lead to accelerator and braking failures.  Without getting too technical here, many apparently 'random' or 'sporatic' events are occurring and will continue to occur as long as solar activity remains high.
     Why no one else is speaking of this, I do not know.  But here is what is a the crux of the situation: Energy coming from the sun and hitting the earth is one thing.  But we have to consider that the earth, itself, is also releasing mass amounts of energy to the surface.  This earth-derived energy manifests as everything from tornadoes, highs/lows, electrical phenomena (lightning, etc), magnetic variations to earthquake and volcanic activity, both on land and under the sea (for the latter two). 
     In simple terms: the sun-derived energy COMBINES with the earth-derived energy and we are seeing the results of these combinations everyday in the news of the world.  Obviously, things have 'ratcheted up', activity/disaster-wise and it is really something that no human can completely understand, let alone predict. 
     Still, these things bear watching.
     And as if to completely add confusion to the mix, I want to bring something else to your attention.  We all know that 'what lies beneath' matters when it comes to predicting natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanoes, amongst other things.  But what most people do not consider is the character of the substrate under our feet, meaning, what is the earth below actually composed of?
     Here are some examples by way of illustrating the point I am next trying to make: We all know that copper is a good conductor of electricity.  So what do you think would happen to someone standing barefoot in a moist 'copper-rich' area during, say, a lightning strike, as opposed to someone standing in a relatively non-conductive area wearing rubber boots?
     Right, the first guy would get a much greater 'jolt', with all other things being equal.  Now here's a question I want to ask you and leave with you to reflect upon...
     Ever hear about 'silicon valley'?  Yes, you have.  Silicon valley is the vernacular for the home or hub of all-things related to computers.  Silicon is an interesting element.  It has a valence of 4, just like carbon does.  In fact, science fiction writers as well as bona fide scientists have postulated the existence of silicon-based life forms in the universe, as opposed to our more familiar carbon-based ones here on earth. 
     Silicon is the most abundant mineral in the universe.  In mineral form, we find it in things like crystalline quartz ( a different discussion for another day).  And it just so happens that silicon deposits are found under some very interesting places on earth, including, but not limited to, the Bermuda triangle, where all sorts of geomagnetic/weather aberrations are known to occur frequently.  It is interesting to note that there is an underwater volcano in the Bermuda Triangle which emits....you guessed it...loads of silicon-laden eruptive flow.
     So I will leave you dear readers with the following--the energy from the sun is hitting and affecting the earth.  It is hitting some very 'already geologically active' areas and when those areas have a substrate such as silicon or something metallic or metalloid, the natural weather/disaster phenomena generated are severely exaggerated.
     This is why the natural disasters of today seem to be so much more frequent and severe. 
     As a Christian believer, I know God's will is being done on earth and I am content to know that.  That doesn't mean that I am not scared sometimes or that I don't want to try to understand things on a scientific level.  This is okay as long as I don't overdo it.  I certainly don't want to frighten anyone (anymore than they already are if they have suffered at the hands of recent events, that is).  I merely want to share what I know with you.
     As always, I say that if you don't know the Lord, this is a good and easy way to start!  Start by doing some 'scientific research' and find out where human intellect fails to answer questions.  I once had a cartoon in my lab of a mathematician at a chalkboard writing out a long, detailed, complex solution to a lengthy equation.  One line of his 'proof' included the phrase "....and then God steps in"
     At the time, as an atheist/agnostic myself, worshiping at the bench of science, I thought that was very clever.  But even then, I felt there was more than a 'kernel of truth' in the construct of that  mathematical cartoon.
     Nowadays, I know the 'God factor' is what we would all do well to come to know, accept and appreciate for it's Genius.  It will be interesting to see if the non-believing intellectuals of the world will be open-minded enough to expand their understandings to accept a Divine Power greater than themselves.
     The way things are playing out in the world today, pure intellectualism is turning out to be something of an antiquated mindset.  The 'Age of Enlightment' for mankind is coming full circle and we are privileged to be a part of this remarkable time in history.
