"Nestlé Purina Dry Cat Food Bags Contaminated With Salmonella Shipped To Colorado, Idaho and Oregon" By Reverend Barbara Sexton "The Biblical Biochemist-Where Science Meets the Cross"

Sox and Sam-Healthy, Affectionate & Gentle brothers!
Available for adoption from Friends of Felines LINK: www.adoptapet.org
Dear Fellow Pet-Lovers:
It starts off insidiously.  Your beloved pet seems 'sluggish'...and not him or her self.  Then notes of obvious illness appear and you are concerned.
You must rush your 'baby' to the vet and you may note symptoms as serious as bloody diarrhea and suspect that something 'exotic' is the cause of your pet's distress.
Yet it could be that the culprit is your pet's 'dry food'.  Even dry food can be fiercely contaminated with pathogenic (disease-causing) organisms, including those produced by the best pet food companies such as Nestle Purina.
The sad fact is that much of our BASIC food supply is contaminated with microbes such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, and all the other 'bad guys' I've been writing about here.
And since these very foodstuffs are used in pet food as well, it is no surprise that the pet food industry is as 'rift' with food borne disease pathogens as human food is.
Unfortunately, it is very easy to MISS the recall notices put out by the FDA and other agencies and supermarkets and pet food supply stores are not always as 'current' as they should be in pulling affected lots off the shelves and in notifying consumers.
So I offer this advice to my dear readers:
1)  Check this link daily if you can so that you can at least 'assure' the safety of the food you and your loved ones consume to at least some degree:
LINK:   http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm
2)  Check in here often at 'Dear Ones Healing Ministry'
LINK: http://www.DearOnesHealingMinistry.blogspot.com  and sign up for my FREE NEWSLETTER (Details Below) and have alerts mailed directly to your emailbox.
 3) AND MOST OF ALL:  DO NOT FEED YOUR BELOVED ANIMALS ANY FOOD THAT YOU, YOURSELF WOULD NOT CONSUME QUALITY-WISE!  All wise pet-owners READ LABELS and know that 'garbage foodstuffs' are added as ingredients in lower-quality pet food.
4)  If you value your pet's life, choose good quality brands of pet food for them!
Read about this latest recall here:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 27, 2011 - Nestlé Purina PetCare Company (NPPC) is voluntarily recalling approximately 870 bags of dry cat food shipped to Colorado, Idaho and Oregon. Only the following products with both the "Best By" date and production codes shown are included in this voluntary recall:
Product Name Bag Size "Best By" Date & Production Code* Bag UPC Code
Cat Chow Naturals Dry Cat Foot 6.3 lb. AUG 2012 10331083 13 17800 11320

Friskies Grillers Blend Dry Cat Food 16 lb. AUG 2012 10381083 06 50000 57578

*"Best By" Date and Production Code is found on the back or bottom of the bag.

The bags of dry cat food in this recall were distributed in error in February, 2011 to a small number of customers in Colorado, Idaho and Oregon, which may have further distributed the product to other Western states. There have been no consumer complaints and no reports of illness.
No additional Purina cat or dog products are involved. Only products which match the "Best By" date and production codes above are involved.
Consumers who have purchased any of these dry cat food products with these "Best By" Dates and Production Codes should discard it.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated products. People handling contaminated dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.
Pets with Salmonella infections may exhibit decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
At Nestlé Purina PetCare, the safety and efficacy of our products are our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience due to this voluntary recall. For further information or to obtain a product refund, please call NPPC toll-free at 1-800-982-6559 weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, or visit www.purina.com.

"Don't Wear Black-A Poem By Dr. Elaine L. Parliman, DVM Published Posthumously" By Reverend Barbara Sexton 'Dear Ones Healing Ministry'

Don't Wear Black
 by Elaine L. Parliman

Don't wear black-
Please don't wear black.
When I am gone from whatever cause,
Please don't wear black.

For I'll see my friends again in time-
New, improved version-sublime!
And I'm sure I'll do just fine
Without my latte, chocolate,
Kiwi, mangoes, and an occasional red wine.

And I'll not miss the Sierra spring alpine
Meadows dancing with a million purple
And red flowering shooting stars
Or backpacing the John Muir trail and
Sleeping tentless under night skies.

I'll not wistfully pine for the magic of Point Reyes
With its rocky beaches, grassy sand dunes,
Mist, roar and smell of pounding surf,
Its islands of restless seals, the barking sea lions,
The small sanderlings racing along the sea's edge
Playing tag with the foam of teasing waves.
Or the pelicans majestic slow soaring interrupted
With swift diving plunges into the sea.

For these moments, these spaces and places,
Were the closest thing to me of heaven on earth,
The closest thing to the Extreme Subliminal Ecstasy
Of total union and communion with the I AM.

And Ah!  All the awesome animals!
I can't believe that the God who notes
when a sparrow falls from its nest
would not make celestial plans and provisions
for all his creatures.
-He made Noah build the Ark.

Wasn't it man who chose to ruin paradise-
He was asked to be a guardian.  Instead he turned
Predator, bringing animals suffering and pain.
He hunted, caged, chained, yoked, mass slaughtered
And turned his companions into commodities and food.
Used them in experiments for cosmetics and for
A new GOD-Science and Knowledge.

Maybe I'll miss my friends and family left behind, but
Only for a short time, for I'll see them again
"transformed"-I guess, a new improved version?
And my animal friends, will they also be improved?
Will my beagle have a brain???  Will he lay down
With the squirrel, or my cat with the mouse?

So please, wear tacky faux furs
Orange and pink zebra stripes
Wear gaudy bright clashing colors,
Out of fashion, out of season clothes,
But please, please
Don't wear black.

This poem, written by Dr. Elaine L. Parliman was read, as she requested, at her "Celebration of Life' Service on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at FCC Stamford.
Here is her obituary...not in black, of course.
Also, please note that I do NOT (as would Elaine, I would venture to say) endorse torturing animals by making them 'wear clothing'.  But the two photos here are of 'pros' and I just couldn't resist putting them up with this poem.
God Rest & Keep You Lanie!
We Love You & Cannot Help But Miss You Until We Meet Again!

"OPIN Rescue Pet Adoption Day Stamford High Ridge Shopping Center Saturday, March 5, 2011 11:00 AM-3:00 PM" By Reverend Barbara Sexton 'Dear Ones Healing Ministry'

'Sweetie' needs a home!
Dear Ones:
Please stop by and find a new little friend to love forever.
Do ADOPT a pet and DO NOT subsidize 'puppy mills' and cruel 'pet farming'.
It is a true blessing to save the life of an innocent animal...no matter how long or short it may be and YOU may be the only hope an animal has for a decent life.

The goodness and love you share will last eternally, no doubt about it.
Surely God Blesses those who adopt and foster and the work of OPIN (Outreach to Pets In Need), Friends of Felines, Adopt-A-Dog of Greenwich, High Ridge Shopping Center, Peter Suchy Jewelers, Heather Scutti and Hearst Media Services as they help the Lord's littlest creatures.
Rev. Barbara Sexton- Dear Ones Healing Ministry

WHERE: High Ridge Shopping Center, 1000

There will also be a blanket drive. OPIN will be accepting donations for blankets, pet beds, dog and cat food, new pet toys and crates to be used for the homeless cats, dogs, puppies and kittens at the shelter and to give to those pet owners who cannot afford to care for their animals.

“The first adoption we held in November was incredibly successful with eight dogs and six cats finding forever homes. We urge local residents to stop by and meet the volunteers and if you can’t adopt, please donate pet beds, food, toys and blankets for these homeless animals,” says Peter Suchy, President of the High Ridge Center Merchants.

Dear Ones:
I have a little visitor cat who is having a tough time wintering OUTSIDE!  If you know who owns this cat or if you own him/her (I think he's a male, but I'm not sure) please contact me immediately at: BarbaraKSexton@aol.com
I've tried following down some lost/found ads unsuccessfully so far.  I've been in contact with local officials, but figured to best way to get this tough 'guy' reunited with his family....or placed with someone...is to use my BLOG!
'Red', as I call him, won't come closer than within two and a half feet of me.  He will come closer through a storm door and I tried to photograph him as best as I could.
I've only been feeding him for the last three days, but he has been around for at least 6 months I estimate, while my husband says he thinks he's seen 'Red' for a year, now.
Let me tell you that if this is an 'owned' cat, the owners have this poor animal out at three o'clock in the morning in wind-chill temperature weather.
No domesticated animal can survive like this for long without adequate shelter.  I don't know where 'Red' shelters to sleep, but it must be somewhere, for he is still in okay shape, except for being constantly hungry and having a sore on his side....from what I can see from a distance, of course, with my bad eyesight.
I've two female cats inside and can't get 'Red' inside, even if I could coax him to do so.
So I pray that all who read this will pass along the following information to every cat and dog rescue resources on and off line everywhere.  It is possible that 'Red' has traveled quite a distance, or he may be local.
I have two calls into Friends of Felines--God Bless Them--and will send them 'Red's photos.  You can just tell that this little guy would love to 'come to you' and that he has known human companionship, but he is just so weary for now.
Thank You and God Bless You for Helping Save This Poor Freezing Feline

"The Cruelty Ends Here: The HSUS Rescues Nearly 100 Dogs from Tenn. Puppy Mill" By Reverend Barbara Sexton- 'Dear Ones Healing Ministry'

The HSUS Rescues Nearly 100 Dogs from Tenn. Puppy Mill

WATCH THIS VIDEO ON YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLuxPKPm7gU
ARTICLE DETAILS:
http://www.humanesociety.org/news/press_releases/2011/02/tennessee_puppy_mill_rescue_020211.html
"The Humane Society of the United States was called in by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department to lead the rescue of 97 dogs and one cat from a Lewisburg, Tenn., property. The dogs were being housed in unsanitary conditions and lacked proper socialization and medical care. All of the animals have been surrendered by the owner to the custody of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

Many of these dogs were so filthy and uncared-for it was difficult for us to even tell what breed they were," said Leighann McCollum, Tennessee state director of The HSUS. "This is the perfect example of the squalid conditions dogs in puppy mills are forced to endure. The Humane Society of the United States is thankful to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department for standing up for these animals and enforcing Tennessee's animal cruelty laws..."
"Puppy Mill Facts:"

"Dogs at puppy mills typically receive little to no medical care, live in squalid conditions with no exercise, socialization, or human interaction, and are confined inside cramped wire cages for life.

Breeding dogs at puppy mills must endure constant breeding cycles and are typically confined for years on end, without ever becoming part of a family.

Dogs from puppy mills are sold in pet stores, online, and directly to consumers with little to no regard for the dog's health, genetic history, or future welfare. Consumers should never buy a puppy from a pet store or Internet site; instead, please visit an animal shelter or screen a breeder's facility in person.

Fifteen states, including Tennessee, have passed laws over the past two years to crack down on abusive puppy mills."

Dear Ones:
For the love of God, DO NOT BUY DOGS AND OTHER ANIMALS IN PET STORES WHICH GET THEIR 'STOCK' FROM PUPPY MILLS AND CRUEL BREEDERS!
The Lord gave us 'dominion over the animals', expecting us to be responsible and humane in all ways when dealing with His creatures.
Please support the Humane Society http://www.humanesociety.org and your local animal rescue organizations today.
We are thankful for animal care workers who have hearts so full of love that they save so many animals from the cruelty of humans.  To them we say, "THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU"
With Love In Christ

"The Wisdom Of The Animals" By Reverend Barbara Sexton, Dear Ones Healing Ministry

A Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.

During the night the folks came across this scene.

An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep.

He chose baby Jesus as his comfort.
No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.

We should all have the good sense of this dog and curl up in Jesus' lap from time to time.

This is too sweet not to share.  No one mentioned that the dog breed is a "shepherd!"
Please remember our animal friends this Christmas & always
