BEWARE the phony PRAYER REQUESTS starting with, "Special Prayer Request from Peggy Lesley at Brookwood Church" . "I am starting a signing for my son's best friend who has cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma). He is 11 years old and is not doing well, at all."
IT IS A HOAX loosely based on some 'truth'!: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/prayer/hodgkins.asp
Most people, I do believe, have good intentions. Especially on matters of faith, we tend to take each others' words at face value.
Yet even the best of us can be deceived.
THERE IS EVEN A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR THE "SICK CHILD" in QUESTION: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2219514237&v=wall#!/group.php?gid=2219514237&v=wall
Since I don't know how many of my readers have ever heard of this scam, I am writing about it here.
And here's my suggestion for a REAL PRAYER LIST. Let's start with the person or persons who have participated in this HOAX with less than noble intentions. Pretending to have cancer is not nice and not funny.
Let us pray that God has mercy on the unfortunates who think it is...that they change their ways and have a miraculous conversion to 'sentience'.
God Bless You this day and forever,
Reverend Barbara Sexton
