Please join me in being an ADVOCATE for the passing of Connecticut's Anti-Tethering and Confinement Bill (SB 274). There is a special place in Hell for persons who abuse animals. We must be good stewards of the precious lives God's has given us 'dominion' over--the animals.

Every day, I pray for the relief from suffering for our animal friends-companions and those raised for food, as I do for all humans of all ages being abused, neglected, tortured and harrassed. I ask for God's mercies on creatures big and small against the cruelty of all mankind.
Please join me today in this VERY REAL WAY to make a difference. And while we're on it, if you see an animal being abused RESCUE IT! Do whatever it takes to get that animal AWAY FROM IT'S ABUSER! Reporting services abound, but you must be persistent and determined. I learned this long ago with child abuse cases, that you have be able to 'outfox' the perpetrators, and intervene with STRENGTH and DETERMINATION.

Thanks to all your help this past month, Connecticut’s anti-tethering and confinement bill (SB 274) has been steadily advancing through the state’s legislative process. SB 274 would ensure that dogs kept outdoors are treated more humanely by requiring that they have a minimum amount of space and are not chained continuously or unsafely.
We still have a steep road ahead of us: SB 274 must clear three more committees, and then the full Connecticut Senate and House, by Friday, May 7. The bill has to move quickly in order to pass this year—and to do that, it needs the solid support of legislators willing to fight for it.
What You Can Do
Make a quick phone call to your state senator and representative urging support for this humane legislation. They need to hear that as a constituent, this issue is important to you—so even if you’ve already called about SB 274, please do so again.

Good work, Connecticut advocates—Senate Bill 274, legislation to prohibit the dangerous and inhumane chaining and confinement of dogs, was passed out of the Environment Committee by a vote of 23 to 6.
We still have a steep road ahead of us: SB 274 must clear three more committees (Judiciary; Planning and Development; and Finance), and then the full Connecticut Senate and House—all by Friday, May 7.
The ASPCA and CT Votes for Animals (CVA) have worked closely with Connecticut animal control officers to develop a dog chaining and confinement bill that will assist their efforts to help dogs. The proposed legislation would ensure that dogs kept outdoors are treated more humanely by requiring that they have a minimum amount of space and are not chained continuously or unsafely.
There are many dangers posed by the excessive chaining and confinement of dogs:
Chaining exposes dogs to injury by other animals, people, extreme weather conditions and the tether/chain itself. It is not uncommon for dogs to hang themselves on tangled chains or for collars to become embedded in their necks.
By isolating these highly social pack animals and depriving them of the ability to flee from perceived threats, chaining and excessive confinement often create anxious, frustrated, aggressive dogs.
Chained dogs are almost three times more likely to bite and are responsible for a substantial percentage of fatal attacks.

When you call, you will most likely speak to a staff member who will offer to pass your message along to your legislator. Here are a few suggestions that may help guide you when speaking to a Senate or House staffer:
Tell them which legislator you would like to reach, and give your name and address so they know you are a constituent.
Tell them that you are calling to urge your legislator to support SB 274, legislation to prohibit the dangerous and inhumane chaining and confinement of dogs.
Be sure to thank the person you speak with for taking the time to consider your views.
